Travel Info Is there anywhere in or between LA to San Fran where you can see killer whales? Travel Tips Actually, their natural habitat extends all the way down to Baja California and beyond. However, they're easier to spot in the Pacific Northwest because they often head into the Juan de Fuca Strait and Puget Sound, which is a more narrow passage of water (that's still deep enough for them to travel in). Along the coast, they tend to stay in the ocean, so attempts to find them are definitely hit-and-miss. If you want to try your luck, there are whale watching tours departing from Long Beach, Monterey, and San Francisco: http://2seewhales.com/ http://www.montereywhalewatching.com/ind... http://www.sfbaywhalewatching.com/... If you want to see a killer whale, period. There are killer whales in captivity at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom (45 minutes north of San Francisco) and Sea World (2 hours south of Los Angeles): http://www.sixflags.com/discoverykingdom... http://4adventure.com/swc/default.aspx... Others Couldn't you just head down to Sea World San Diego? Its only another 2 hours or so. Shamooooo! Marine World, not naturally though its not their natural habitat. Research No, they live off the Pacific northwest and southern British Columbia. Yeah, Goto Monterrey Bay... Whales also go through there... the guy that said no is a jack ***. You'll get to see them in their "natural state". But I believe that is a certain season. Do a search on killer whales in monterrey bay and you'll see. But if you're looking for a theme park kinda thing... i know Vallejo has a marine world which is north of SF by about 30 mins (depending on traffic) i believe they still might have a killer whale there... but i doubt it. Check out Monterrey Bay! |
