Which hotel is best in San Francisco?

Travel Info
I am debating between the Argonaut Hotel or Hyatt Regency hotel -both in the Fishermans Wharf. Any info is helpful.
Thanks

The argonaut hands-down. It is owned by Kimpton and they have beautiful rooms and excellent service. It will add to the SF experience. The Hyatt is like all other hyatts, nice but not exciting. Argonaut has lovely wine reception at night.

However, if you have kdis, I think Hyatt would be more accomodating. I suggest checking out tripadvisor.com for other comments on both hotels.

It depends on what you are looking for when you say BEST:

1. The best overall in the opinions of many locals and experts/critics is the FAIRMONT hotel. This is the hotel that every president has stayed at, it was even filmed in the movie THE ROCK w/ Nicholas Cage.

2. The Pan Pacific Hotel near downtown is very BIG and luxurious as well, and also is in better proximity to the shopping centers, but parking is a pain and there is always a crowd near there b/c it is so close to everything.

3. Sir Francis Drake - This hotel is very unique, with its glass elevators, nice restaurants and extremely great views of the city. It is IN UNION SQUARE the center of much of the shopping and restaurants/bars in the downtown area, and is even harder to find parking, but is great if you plan to walk around.

4. Possibly one of the nicest modern looking hotels with a very upscale and modern look is the W hotel near the Metreon (entertainment center of SF). This hotel is very trendy and has a very nice and popular bar on the bottom floor and the rooms are extremely nice, different from the european look, it has a modern, very sleek look about it.

5. There is, of course, the chains that are also nice: The Hyatt at Embarcadero (close to the water) with a revolving restaurant on the top floor, Four Seasons (close to downtown) on market street.

Hope this helps - all the above hotels are extremely nice with good locations from the water to downtown. Have fun.
