Marin County. What do you think of it? |
Travel Info Marin County. What do you think of it? Travel Tips It's a really nice, scenic place to live, which is probably why it's the most expensive county in CA for housing. Good schools, low crime, nice weather, and nice homes basically so it's a great place to raise a family and grow up. It also has some of the best views of SF and the Bay in the entire Bay Area. There are some great places to go hiking and explore nature there too like the Marin Headlands, Muir Forest, Stinson Beach, ect.... It has some of the most lush forests in the Bay Area. It's also a bastion of limosuine liberalism and is full of wealthy liberals, which I'm not saying is a bad thing but just an observation; some of the people there are very progressive which is good mostly. It's kind of like Orange County with all it's wealth except instead of being really conservative it's really liberal. As with any place with a large concentration of wealth SOME of the people can come off as snobby and pretentious and a bit full of themselves. Overall it's a really great place to live b/c it has a great quality of life. It's very wealthy so you get the good and the bad things of living in an area like that. It's definately one of the nicest places to live in the Bay Area and probably this country. Others very nice and no crime, I used to stay there for weekends and I made A lot of money and met some very friendly people. It was kinda fun but not too much going on but I'm sure if you checked the website for Marin county you'd find out more info. My husband lived in Marin Co. for 28 years. When we met, that's where we moved. I am originally from a super small town in North Carolina. I only lived there for a year but in that year, I received an entire tour of the surrounding areas. Anywhere from Bodega Bay, to Sonoma Co., Sacramento (which I really didn't prefer), Vallejo, Tiburon, San Francisco, San Rafael, Santa Rosa.. everywhere.. you name it. Even down all the way to L.A.! I had never been to California before so in that short time my hubby really gave me a tour! My favorite of all those places was Marin Co. I'm really not sure what attracted me to it, maybe because the huge difference compared to where I am from, or maybe the coziness of it. We have since moved out of California and now on the island of Puerto Rico. It was always a dream of mine to move to an island and now I have. But to sum up just how I feel about Marin Co... If I were to ever move away from this island (which I can't see doing anytime in the future) I would move to only one other place, and that would be Marin Co. 鈾? Charming, but expensive. it is the best place in the world to live and I would live no where else (and I have lived in the east coast, midwest, southern california, etc.). You are in beautiful surroundings with hiking, biking (Mt. Tam, Mt. Burdell, Muir Woods, etc.), and beach (Stinson, Bodega, Tomales, etc.)only minutes away. Not everyone in Marin is rich; there are plenty of people in middle class or even below poverty. However, the educatonal level of the average citizen is very high. Crime is relatively low. Towns and cities still maintain that old-fashion charm, with all the conveniences of modern life. People are kind and polite. Prices are less than San Francisco, and you do not have to live on top of your neighbor. It is a fabulous place to raise kids. The schools are awesome in every town. So many things for kids to do with great parks and wonderful recreation facilities. You are minutes from San Francisco and you can get there by ferry or over the Golden Gate Bridge. We have wonderful restaurants and shopping but are not over run with national chains. We are one of the more liberal counties, and we are a very diverse population too-not only with race, but also religion, income levels, etc. The multi-cultrualevents throughout the county are so enriching. The farmers markets are awesome and bountiful. Sean Penn, Sammy Hagar, Carlos Santana, George Lucas, Isabel Allende, Melba Beals, John Lassseter, James Hetfield, Huey Lewis, Bonnie Raitt, Grace Slick and so many more cannot be wrong!! Marin is possibly the best county in Northern California. Marin has the most beautiful city and water views and streets, yet close proximity to San Francisco, internationally diverse communities, affluent, charming architecture, simply desirable and impressive. Other counties ie San Mateo, Santa Clara or Alameda County just aren't as pretty and beautiful as Marin. However, one of the biggest downside to Marin is the weather there can be windy, cold and foggy year round especially the southern parts of Marin. The other major downside is the fact you have to cross the bridge to get to the San Francisco - which is surely a common occurence if you want to get out of Marin for some entertainment. In a state prone to earthquakes, the last thing you want is to be stuck in traffic on a bridge. Awesome, especially in Tiburon and Sausalito. I used to live there before buying a home in So. SF a few years ago. |
