What are a "must do" activities in San Francisco? |
Travel Info Besides Alcatraz.. Travel Tips Haight-Ashbury is my favorite place in SF. It hasn't gotten over commercialized and you still have some hippies hanging around. All around the place are famous houses like where the Grateful Dead lived or Charles Manson, you can find the addresses online. From there, take a stroll through beautiful Golden Gate Park to the Japanese Tea Garden, which is only about $5-$6 to get in and is beautiful. Take your time though, the Park is a really nice walk. On the way is the AIDS Garden, which is really nice and stop and watch some lawn bowling. Of course, you gotta do the standard tourist stuff - Pier 39 (the sealions are the best), Lombard Street, Fisherman's Wharf (get some clam chowder and sourdough, the best), there are alot of street entertainers down there. Take a walk down the Esplinade to AT&T Park. Even if you don't like baseball, it is one of the nicest stadiums in all of sports and, during a game, you can watch three innings for free in right field by looking through the arches. There are some relatively cheap places to stay right on Lombard if you do your homework. I love SF and just talking about it makes me miss the place, I can't wait to go back. Others Go to fisherman's wharf and eat seafood. Walk down the street and gawk at all of the gay's. Go to the hippie village. Pier 39 is cool, but very 'tourist-y'. There's also Fort Point, just under the Golden Gate Bridge, and of course, there's Golden Gate Park. Also, the Palace of Fine Arts is a great place to go. And definitely if you have time, you should check out the ocean. Ocean Beach is just outside the city and is a great spot to watch the sunset. Have fun! Hi, I live, work, and play about 45 minutes away from SF & one of the things that strikes me about SF is that there are so many distinct neighborhoods (almost like visiting a different city each time!). You don鈥檛 say how much time you have but I鈥檇 recommend staying at least a week so you can check out the different neighborhoods like North Beach (restaurants, nightclubs), Chinatown (self-contained cultural area), Golden Gate Park (love the outdoors). My personal favorites are hanging out by Fisherman鈥檚 Wharf, and taking the ferry to Tiburon & Angel Island. You should check out the things to do in San Francisco at this link, http://www.tripwiser.com/trip_destinatio... Have fun! Californian for 45 years! Depends on what you like. There are great museums such as the MOMA, Legion of Honor, de Young and Grace Cathedral is a beautiful place to walk the labyrinth if you like cathedrals. Great shopping downtown and if you want to go to the ocean beach to see the Pacific Ocean it is a great place to walk but do not ever go in due to the rip tides. You can walk across the G Gate Bridge or along the Embarcadero. If you look at a map you will see that it is 7 miles across east to west and 7 miles from north to south. The west side is cooler and the east is warmer. There are many things to see in the Presidio. There is a 49 mile drive that takes you around most sites. Coit tower gives a good view on a clear day of the area. Have fun We loved Golden Gate Park. There were so many things to see and do. The gardens were fabulous. We never got tired or bored walking around. We took the train and the trolley and streetcars. You should watch the sea lions at Fisherman's wharf. Check out the swimmers in the cold bay water every morning. |
