For East Bay or San Fran residents, what is the commute to Mountain View or Redwood City like? |
Travel Info It appears to be out of range of public transportation. Travel Tips For San Francisco residents it's not bad because there is Hwy 280. Not only is it a scenic commute since it runs admist the coastal foothills and the Crystal Springs watershed, it is also a fast commute because Hwy 280 has 4 lanes in each direction and traffic usually moves at over 70 mph. The other southbound freeway is Hwy 101, which is a bumper to bumper nightmare and to be avoided at all costs. For the east bay, you might as well get used to a slow commute every day along I-880 or I-680, and then you have to cross the San Mateo Bridge (Hwy 92) or Dumbarton Bridge each day. Sucks. Others actually, www.bart.gov will take you to millbrae from SF or east bay. (subway) from millbrae, get on www.caltrain.com and that will take you to either redwood city OR mountain view. (train) www.samtrans.com will take you ANYWHERE. (bus) Actually you could take the BART to the Milbrae train station and then take the Caltrain to Mountain view because that is where I stay and how I get to the East Bay. Also Redwood City is a stop too. It leaves you near the new theater. It depends on what you mean by the East Bay - I strongly suggest if you're going to do this, that you look for someplace to live on the bay-side (e.g. Hayward or Fremont), not out in San Ramon or Diablo Valley. I used to do the commute from Pleasanton to Mountain View.... I moved to LA to get a shorter commute................. You can count on it taking 1 1/2 hours each way.except on Monday mornings and Friday afternoons when it takes longer ............ the problem is that you cross multiple natural physical 'boundaries' (coast range, the Bay etc.) and so the roads are limited... |
