Do you think a lot of people in the Bay Area smoke weed?

Travel Info
I know this is no a travel question but I needed opinions of people from the area. I'm not trying to promote drug use or anything but it just seems to me a lot of people, young and old, smoke pot here and I was wondering if anyone else thought so. Most people my age (mid 20's) I know smoke and many of my friends parents smoke occasionally too. I grew up in an upper middle class suburb and most people are educated, go off to college like me and all my friends and are successful; basically a type of place most people elsewhere wouldn't think has many people that smoke weed. And up where my father (who does't smoke) lives in Mendocino County he says the biggest two industries are wine and weed and you can smell the pot in the air sometimes in town. So do you think that a higher percentage of people in the Bay Area and Northern CA smoke weed compared to other parts of the country?

Travel Tips
People smoke it everywhere. It doesn't matter much where they live in the US, they will smoke if they want to. But I agree I don't think there are that many smokers in the Bay area.

Most smart people that do surely are educated enough to not broadcast it across america that they are in possession of a controlled substance

There are weed smokers in the bay, in la, and in the central valley......
I have lived in the East Bay as well as in NYC and several other parts of the country. I think the rate of smoking pot, among people who can afford it, is definitely higher in the Bay Area than elsewhere. And your dad is not the only one with the impression that the entire nation's supply is being grown in Mendocino/Humboldt!
The NorCal weed smoking ratio is definitely higher than average.

In college towns and smaller coastal communities (like Davis, Bodega Bay, Mendocino, Rohnert Park, and so forth), it's widely tolerated. As per a state law allowing the counties to regulate marijuana as they see fit, it's not even a state offense anymore in some areas.

Marijuana is effectively decriminalized in Humboldt, San Francisco, and Santa Cruz Counties. For example, in San Francisco, the maximum penalty for possession of upto 28 ounces is now a $135.00 fine. This means it's a Class C misdemeanor...comparable to getting a parking ticket.

Of course, it's still a federal offense. But since most law enforcement is done at the local level, such cases are rare. As long as you're not flaunting it in a National Park or opening up a retail pot shop (there are occassional DEA raids), it's not really an issue.
The drugs every where you go. It doesn't matter what city, what town or what state. Drugs are every where! weed is the most popular. I live in Hawaii & a lot of the locals here use Crystal Meth & smoke weed here in Hawaii. Drug Crime is bad in Hawaii.
