What's the best way to get from Las Vegas to San Francisco? |
Travel Info There really isn't a straight shot. Can someone who's done it tell me from experience which is the best way to go? up and around or down and around? Travel Tips Drive out to the Colorado River, near Bullhead City. Cross over, head for the Tehacapi Mountains. Drive over them, pick up the Interstate 5 northbound at around Bakersfield, merge onto the 580 (the Mac Arthur Freeway), and take the 580 through Alameda County to the I80, across the Bay Bridge ($4.00 toll) and you are in the City in about 12 to 16 hours. Very scenic and fun! Stop if you can in Coalinga to eat at the Harris Ranch. More scenic is US Hwy 99, but a longer trip. Even longer is to go over to US Hwy 101 on the coast, but you'll need days to do that. Others There is no best way. I live in Chico which is north of Sacramento and usually take the desert route from Las Vegas to Reno. You will get to see Reno and the drive over the mountains to Sacramento is really scenic. There are two other choices. Over the mountains to Bakersfield then up to Sacramento or you can go through :L.A. and take the coastal route. Either route will be a 10 hour drive. BTW: I will be flying down next week and returning via the Reno route. i think down and around is the best way to go Fly. The best way. If you drive, you might try taking the 99 to the 58 to the 15. But that's a real long drive, if you're going to gamble, just go to Reno or the many Indian casinos CA has to offer! : ) |
