For people familiar with san fransisco. just before u get to the tollpoint at the start of the golden gate? |
Travel Info bridge coming in to san fransisco, there is an exit which is a very steep hill and as you turn the corner itheres parking where you can walk to a fort and an awesome view of the GG bridge and the bay. Does this exit have a name or even better can anyone point me to a web site with a detailed map? i visited there at the beginning of the year and am now trying to show my bos how to get there as she is visiting soon. it is so beautiful! Travel Tips Sounds like what you want is Fort Point. http://www.nps.gov/fopo/ Their driving directions say: By car from the north, take Highway 101 across the Golden Gate Bridge. Stay in right toll lane and exit immediately past the bridge toll plaza. Turn right at end of exit ramp and loop under toll plaza. At end of road, turn left onto Lincoln Boulevard. Take the first left onto Long Avenue and follow onto Marine Drive and Fort Point at its end. Yes, it's a great view of the bridge. Good luck! Others If you're heading towards the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco, that exit is called "View Area, Presidio, Golden Gate NRA". It's also called "Last SF Exit" as it's the last chance to turn around before you get on the bridge and leave the city. Edit: if it's just before the toll plaza, and before you get on the bridge, that can only be on the San Francisco side. Alternately (if there is a backup on Dewey Dr) you can take the left turn exit labeled Presidio Crissy Field and then turn right at the first intersection, then left and continue towards the bridge. You can also look at www.maps.google.com or www.maps.yahoo.com or www.mapquest.com Since your question asked about coming *into* SF from the north-- In order to get to the north viewing area, you need to get back onto the bridge going the other way: Proceed through the far right toll lane #1, and make an immediate right exiting U.S. Highway 101 just past the Toll Plaza. Make another immediate right onto the roadway passing underneath the Toll Plaza and directly into the southeast parking lot. Drive through the parking lot, bearing right to access the Bridge to travel north. Cross the Bridge and take the first exit called "Vista Point" and turn right into the parking lot. |
