Best place to live in Bay area for young couple? |
Travel Info We will be a mid to late 20's family with one kid and one dog relocating from FT. Benning, Ga. to Bay area after my enlistment is up. Wife is an accountant, I will seek employment with the local law enforcement. Looking for a place that is relatively safe, good schools, house prices that match our jobs, backyard would be nice.I know the cost of living is much much higher but we have been living in the same region our whole lives and want to live somewhere else where not everyone is a Bush or die conservative Any help would be appreciated. Travel Tips If you want good schools, safe neighborhoods, and family friendly environments, try looking in San Ramon. Neighboring communities such as Danville, Pleasanton, Alamo & Walnut Creek are also very nice. I think you'll pay slightly more for a home in those communities though. There are many nice new home developments that are being built. The housing market is slow so you might be able to get a break. Many of the lot sizes are smaller, but there are bigger ones available if you look at the right time. We looked for a new home in the Wendt Ranch community in Danville -- they still have tons of newly built homes to sell, but with all the competition of new home communities, they were offering tremendous incentives such as a price reduction of around 200K plus flooring upgrades. This was almost a year ago so I'm not sure how it is over there now, but I'm fairly sure they're still trying to sell their homes. Many newcomers also look in the Windemere community in San Ramon. There are also many older homes throughout the communities. Peninsula communities as well as the Fremont area are also very nice and have outstanding schools but you'll still pay a premium for an older, run down home. You'll get more for your money buying in the East Bay. BTW, you'll get a mix of conservatives and liberals in the East Bay. If you're set on hanging out with liberals, you might have to give up some of the other things you listed and try Berkeley, Albany, SF & Oakland. Others In CA if you want liberal anywhere along the coastline. If you want to raise your family safely I would say not SF, Oakland, Richmond or Berkeley, try Walnut Creek, Livermore, Concord, Dublin. You can also try the Penninsula area which includes San Bruno, San Mateo, Burlingame, San Carlos, Redwood City, Palo Alto, Mountain View. san carlos is awesome. it is "the city of good living" and appropriately named |
