Are solo getaways helpful? I feel like traveling somewhere within Northern CA, bookin a hotel & just thinking? |
Travel Info I heard this helps kind of put you on track, gather your thoughts, reconsider your goals, mission in life etc. Have any of you had good experiences with this? Also, for Norcal residents, I live in berkeley- can you recommend a city that would be good for this..not extremely far, not expensive, and not too noisy? Thanks bunches! Travel Tips Very much so, St Helena and Calistoga and generally tripping around the Napa valley makes for a nice getaway if you don't want to drive too far from home. In Calistoga some of the places have the hot mineral spring water plumbed so you can fill your in room spa/tub and enjoy it in total privacy. If you want to enjoy the scenic route and less traffic take the Silverado Trail up the east side of the valley once you get to the city of Napa. You will bypass the small towns and all the roadside touristy stops but there are roads to cut across the valley at every town if you want to do so. Vintage 1870 in Yountville is a fun place to trip around for shops and eats, if you go there cross the street on the north end of the 1870 strip to Beard Plaza, enjoy the amazing and inspiring work of some exceptional artists. Further out are places like way up 101 into the redwoods along the eel river, garberville area comes to mind Others I love solo getaways - you can commune with yourself, take long walks, sightsee. You can be with people if you want to, or not, as you choose. Just getting away is wonderful. No phone, don't read the paper, just bad news anyway. Get to the ocean if you like, I try to do that. The ocean calms me because it is so huge and powerful it makes me feel small, and that's a good thing. Makes me realize how unimportant I really am. Makes my problems smaller. Go and have a restful, relaxing time! I envy you. I travelled my whole life on business around the world. I have travelled solo and with others. I do prefer to travel with others, somebody to have dinner with and conversation. I have occasionally enjoyed a solo trip, the one I have in mind is London England where I was able to go do exactly what I wanted without having to compromise with others. I also did Paris on my own, but I took my wife back 2 years later. It was much more fun with her. So anyways, do go away on your own and try it. I love my getaways, which come far too infrequently. I like to go up to Bolinas (they have a couple of nice B&Bs). I also go up to Mendocino or Fort Bragg, then inland away from the tourists. If you're willing to drive a couple of hours, may I recommend this: http://www.treebonesresort.com/... Check out Harbin Hot Springs. It's only 45 minutes past Calistoga and it has 24 hour hot pool access. Late night is nice because of the candles. There are many different areas for meditation and you can participate in yoga classes, hike, soak, read, space out or whatever. It is a very quiet place. Bring your sleeping bag and crash out on one of the huge decks. http://www.harbin.org/ |
