What is Alameda, California like?

Travel Info
Is it a nice place to live? What are the people like? Is it a good place for kids? How are the schools?

Travel Tips
Alameda, somehow, has kept it city relatively safe and clean. Being adjacent to problematic cities like Hayward, Oakland, and Berkeley - it is a small city that is surrounded by water (it is actually an island!) and has very good access to freeways and is very very close to San Francisco!

The city itself has pretty good schools and has a very diverse population (which is representative of Bay Area living). Its a good choice, not too expensive, safe, and has a good number of hangouts and restaurants.

Hope this helps.

Alameda, across the bay from San Francisco is a nice area.. a small town feel.... The schools are good, (better than some of the surrounding areas).

And, it's a hop skip and a jump from Oakland and San Francisco.

I think it's a great place to raise a middle to upper middle class family.
I was just there for the fourth of July. It's a cute town, right near the water. It has better weather then S.F. but is actually quite close. They have a cute parade every fourth of July. As the guy above me said, it's a good town to raise a family in.
the beach in alameda is not all that it was really nice now its very dirty
