How do you get from Chinatown to Japantown(S.F.)? |
Travel Info I might be going to San Francisco this weekend, and i need Directions of how to get to Chinatown to Japantown via bus or walking. Travel Tips I would take the #1 bus from Chinatown, it goes up Sacramento Street. It will take you straight up Sacramento, over Nob Hill and get off at Fillmore. Then walk a few blocks east down Fillmore until you get to Sutter, and that's pretty much Japantown. If you are in Union Square, then take the #38, but the #1 is closer to Chinatown. The cable cars do not go to Japantown, answerer #1 is incorrect. All they will do is take you to Union Square, which is a 10 minute walk from Chinatown (if that), and then you would have to take the #38 anyways. Others You can take trolley # 2 from chinatown. Or you can take Bus # 38 Geary street http://transit.511.org/providers/maps/sf... In Chinatown, get on the #1 CALIFORNIA trolley bus which goes west up the hill via Sacramento St.. Catch bus on CORNER OF SACRAMENTO & KEARNY ST. (if you want a good seat). Catching the bus at the corner of either Grant Ave. or at Stockton St., you usually need to compete with the crowd for a seat. Tell the driver where you are going-- drivers can be very helpful. Disembark either at Fillmore or the stop before Fillmore St., cross the street and walk 4 blocks south toward Post St. The blocks you need to walk are relatively short. Japantown mall is bordered by Laguna & Fillmore, Geary Blvd. & Post. The easiest way would be to walk down a few blocks to Geary and catch the Geary bus. It will drop you off right at Japantown with no transfers. take the 1 California from either Sacramento and Grant Street or Sacramento and Stockton street. Get off at Sacramento and Fillmore and walk south about 4 blocks and you're at the start of Jtown. It's actually cool to get off at Fillmore because it's a nice trendy part of SF....well that side of the Fillmore at least. |
