Moving help? |
Travel Info My cousin just graduated from college in central california and wanted to shift to southern california due to the fact that he has got his first job there, he does not have that much stuff, only the usual that a student would have. Now the question is what is the best way for him to move all his stuff to his new location as it cannot fit in his car? The move is about 300 miles Anyone who answers please try to provide some actual help such as websites, addresses and so on and not just go for the 2 points. Thanks!!!! Travel Tips My son was faced with the same problem. We looked into renting U-Haul trailers and found that it would cost more to rent the trailer (especially for a one-way trip) than his stuff was worth. Eventually, he sold his crappy college-student furniture, filled up his car (and a friend's car) and they caravaned to his new location. He then bought the few things he needed to start with. If he doesn't have anything of real value (like most recent grads), then it's probably not worth paying to transport it 300 miles. Others I'd rather go for the 2 points. Thanks. Now as to your cousin- tell him to sell his junk and buy new stuff when he gets to wherever he's moving. Try checking the local U-Haul establishment. They have a variety of trailers and trucks available to rent reasonably priced. They are very helpfull usually and can set your cousin up with just the right size. They do have a website www.uhaul.com. There are other self moving companies as well. I have personally used U-haul so can vouch for them, but check the others if you are so inclined for the better deal. Good luck Check with local rental agencies. He may be able to rent a small moving van for a very reasonable price. When he does do it, compare the cost of a car trailer rental against driving the truck round trip and then taking his car to Southern Cal. I would check into Pods (not sure if they are in CA of not). Basically any storage company that will deliver a crate - you fill it - and they store it and then move it to wherever he is moving. You need to watch their rules (will not drop on a roadside - ie curb, will not deliver to gravel drives). But great otherwise. And really if he is just getting done with school, offer up the pizza and beer (or whatever drink). His friends can load up cars and head down for a weekend - free food and drink were always good for my friends to help (and my friends moved me across the country)!! I'm not sure if this is any option, but if there isn't a whole lot of stuff, is it possible to have his stuff shipped to him if he boxes it up, like with UPS or FedEx? |
