What's the best way from Sunnyvale to San Francisco via bart? |
Travel Info I'm heading up there later, and I'm wondering if it's better to go to the Milbrae station or the Freemont station. I will be getting off at the Civic station, so with Milbrae, there is one less line and it's a bit cheaper, but I'm more concerned with time, especially weekday rush hour traffic. Maybe this boils down to 101-N or 880-N. I just want to know which is better, but if you can give a time estimate (factoring in traffic), you'll get bonus points. ;) Travel Tips Both ways will be miserable as far as driving (45 minutes plus to either location). If you are going to drive, though, you'll want to drive to the Milbrae station (it's a shorter BART ride). A better solution would be to take Caltrain to Millbrae, then BART from Millbrae to Civic Center. If you are leaving during the morning rush hour, you can take a baby bullet express train from Sunnyvale to Millbrae (travel time is about 30 minutes). During the evening rush hour, catch the baby bullett train at Mountain View (travel time is about 25 minutes). I cannot think of a scenario where driving from Sunnyvale to Fremont would be faster. Others Michael - Take CalTrain north from Sunnyvale and transfer to BART at Millbrae (just a walk across the platform). Take BART to Civic Center. This will allow you to avoid rush hour traffic on either 101 or 880. If you catch one of the CalTrain so-called 'Baby Bullet' or limited-stop trains, it will save time. Total travel time will be about an hour and 10 minutes or more, depending on time of day and which train you catch. Hope that helps! http://www.transitinfo.org/ http://www.caltrain.com/ http://www.bart.gov/ I'd definitely go with the Millbrae route. Remember, BART and Caltrain share the station at Millbrae, so you can simply take Caltrain and transfer over to BART by walking across the platform. It's really easy. There's a Caltrain station right in Sunnyvale (121 W. Evelyn Avenue), so freeway traffic isn't an issue. Don't drive. |
