Any suggestions for inexpensive 1-2 day weekend car trips in California? Departure point is San Jose.? |
Travel Info Looking for a fun and inexpensive weekend trip to take around the midsection of California. Would like to keep driving time within 2.5 hours, as gas is expensive, etc. Thanks! Travel Tips Most of these suggestions are more than 3 hours from San Jose. For an inexpensive 1 or 2 day trip, try Santa Cruz or my favorite, Capitola. There are a lot of inexpensive motels in the area and lots to do. And it's a great way to beat the heat. Wine country is great, and if you want to stay overnight, try motels in the Sonoma area. Sonoma tends to have more affordable options than Napa and more to do than just visit wineries (though that's a full weekend in itself). Monterey and Carmel are about an hour and 15 minutes away, though lodging there can be expensive. But there's lots to do there. Old Sacramento is about 2 hours away and worth a day trip. Try the Railroad Museum, a walk around Old Town, and maybe take in a ball game and the great Triple-A park. Others go to Nevada city CA up hwy 49 or go to Yosemite or willits Go to tripadvisor.com. Then put in your city or the closest bigger city in the search bar. Click on your city. Then click on getaways. They have so many couple hour drives and shorter for little getaways and have a write up about each one. WOW thats an easy one, try this ! http://gocalif.ca.gov/state/tourism/tour... Hit all the drug neighborhoods. 2 adults, hit Calistoga - you can get a massage then go wine tasting! Pretty inexpensive. For a family - Yosemite! Of course one main point should be San Francisco which is about 45 minutes from SJ. You can go see the Fisherman's Wharf, Coit Tower, Cable Car, Lombard Street, China Town than drive 101 North to go by Golden Gate and take a tour to St Helena, Calistoga and Napa. Vine Country is beautiful. In Santa Helena there is a wonderful Vittorio Sattui Winery. They have the best wines in that area and tasting is for free. You can have a picnic on their grounds. They have a big garden especially for that purpose. |
