I live in San Jose, California. How far do i have to go to see stars at night...? |
Travel Info ...the way they were meant to be seen. Here there are so many city lights that i cant see the stars very well. How far do i have to drive and maybe if you know a good destination where i can see all the stars in the sky without light blocking out the true view. thank you Travel Tips I took an astronomy class at West Valley College and the teacher used to have "star parties". We would go to an elementary school on the Summit, only about a 30 minute drive and we could see the stars fairly good. He also set up telescopes so we could see some of the planets. You don't have to travel hours away to get a nice view of the night sky without the city lights. Others i live in San Jose ca also and we have to drive 3 hours away to see all the stars it's awesome it's where we go camping lake Don Pedro Approx. 1.5 hours...off Hwy 5 you can drive out into the country by Patterson, there is Crows Landing...all cows and PERFECT for that :) Lick Observatory on Mt. Hamilton (http://mthamilton.ucolick.org/)... or Foothill Observatory in Los Altos Hills (http://www.foothill.fhda.edu/ast/fhobs.h... [currently closed for maintenance but reopens Winter 2007. Head on up Calaveras Rd in Milpitas...once you get on the other side of the East Hills, it's like you're in amother state! You can keep driving and it'll connect to Sierra Rd and you can come back down that way too! Be wary of the Sheriff's...they like to patrol up there... The night sky is usually quite visible from along Skyline Blvd - which is just about 20-30 minutes out of SJ, depending on where you are. Hi i live in santa cruz ca. Santa cruz as you probably know is about 20-40 minutes away from san jose depending on where in san jose you live. The beaches here are beautiful!!!! ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT, so i suggest driving down to santa cruz and going to the santa cruz municipal wharf or one of the beaches listed below to see some amazing stars!!! these are my favorite places to go and watch the stars, plus my favorite beaches!!!: Cowells beach seacliff beach twin lakes beach* *twin lakes is a really great place to go to look at the stars because the road and the beach are basically at the same level except the roads a little higher, so when you go to twin lakes you can park right infront of the beach and have a gorgeous view of the surf and the stars at the SAME time!!!! |
