Why should I move to Sunnyvale? |
Travel Info My fiancee and I are living in Upstate New York right now. We need a change of scenery, new jobs, and a new start. We're looking at moving to Sunnyvale, CA because we have quite a few friends there, plus the job market seems much much better. So here's my questions. How's the job market for people who are looking for technology related jobs? Are there alot of entry level jobs, or do you need alot of experience to get something good? Is it worth the high living prices? And is it possible for a couple to get around on one vehicle? And of course, tell my why I should move to Sunnyvale. =) Travel Tips LOL - Sunnyvale is right in Silicon Valley, so everyone and their mother has a tech-related job here. The job market is pretty good right now - it's evened out after the dot-com boom and bust. A lot of the big companies like Google and Cisco and eBay have plenty of entry-level jobs. Whether or not it's worth the high living prices is a personal choice. Last time I checked, this area was about 130% of the national average, which means that both paychecks and cost of living is about 30% more than what you'll pay in an average American city. Getting around with one vehicle per couple would be tricky, but with some careful planning it could be done. I'd suggest looking for a home that is near a Caltrain or Light Rail station, and having one person commute to work that way, unless you're lucky enough to both get hired at the same company. Sunnyvale is a pretty nice location, because it puts you right between the South Bay and the Peninsula, significantly cutting your commute to both work and leisure activities no matter what you choose. It's a nice, safe town. Also consider neighboring Cupertino, which offers many of the same advantages and an excellent school system. Others Job market is good here in the Silicon Valley. Sunnyvale is central to about everything. Not too far from SF city and it 's close to many shops and malls. I used to live in this city and I like it there. |
