Moving to San Jose area with kids, where should we live? |
Travel Info We are moving from SoCal to San Jose with two small kids, one school-age. Any recommendations for family-oriented communities and great schools?? Housing is expensive, I know, so that's a concern too. Any suggestions would be great! Thanks. Travel Tips It's hard to go wrong with any town in the South Bay, it's a pretty nice place to live and largely suburban. I'd suggest, when in doubt, choosing to live further west rather than east. East San Jose has higher crime and a lower standard of living than the rest of the area. Milpitas (to the north) and Gilroy (to the south) would be better choices in this case. Also avoid East Palo Alto - it has a significantly high crime rate. Saratoga and Los Gatos have excellent school systems, but very high housing prices. Cupertino might offer better value for the money. Sunnyvale and Santa Clara are also good choices. The Willow Glen and Cambrian neighborhoods in West San Jose are affordable with decent (but not outstanding) schools. Others Some people love living in downtown San Jose. Some live in the South San Jose (Blossom Hill/Almaden) area. Some love living in Santa Clara/Sunnyvale area because of children. :) The Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, South San Jose (Blossom Hill) area is pretty good for families with small children. :) try www.craigslist.org and look under the HOUSING section :) to find a good place for your family Good Luck. :) No place is really a bad area, any place can be made a home. :) www.craigslist.org Willow Glen and the Almaden area's in San Jose are great areas for kids plus great schools. Suburbs such as Palo Alto are very family friendly but also very expensive. Good luck, its very nice up here. |
