Memorial day traffic estimate. San Jose to Lake Tahoe? |
Travel Info I need a rough estimate of how long it would take to go from San Jose to Truckee, Memorial Day Weekend. Usually it should take around 3.5 hours. but never travel on long weekend. I am planning to leave around 3pm, is it bad? How much memorial day traffic will delay the trip? Thanks! Travel Tips It depends on which route you are taking from San Jose - are you taking 680 all the way up to 80 or going 680 - 580 - 210 - 5 - 80? I usually do the second one to avoid the 680 / 24 interchange and the bridge out there. However, you end up hitting the traffic at 580 after 680, as well as in Tracy. All that being said, leaving any time on Friday between 2 and 7PM will get you nowhere fast. There will be a ton of traffic going out of the Bay Area then, and I would estimate that you are looking at around 4 1/2 to 5 1/2 hours of unpleasant driving. If at all possible, leave before or after those times and you'll end up being in your car less time and enjoying the drive more. I assume you are leaving Friday at 3pm to begin your weekend. I would allow 5 hours since you are leaving at 3pm along with all the others that will be cutting the day short to begin the long weekend. |
