Travel Tips
San Jose is a very nice place to live. I'm not surprised that someone living in Hawaii would describe the winters as "cold as hell", but I would disagree with that. I rarely wear a jacket unless I'm going to be outside for a good length of time. I do often wear a silk turtleneck under a sweater in the winters. There is frost overnight, and sometimes ice on windshields, but it generally warms up into the high 40's or 50's even in mid-winter. There are a few colder days now and then, and the surrounding hills get snow occasionally, but the valley is warmer.
It is also very rarely above 100 degrees. It happens for a week, maybe two weeks every summer, but then the coastal fog rolls back in. A typical summer day begins with fog, moves into clear skies and temps in the 80's, then finishes with a cool breeze and overnight fog again. So for two weeks you might wish you had air conditioning, but then nature's air conditioning takes over and makes sleeping comfortable.
If you're into the club scene, you might enjoy San Francisco more, though there are some good clubs in downtown and in neighboring cities. But if you're thinking of settling down and really living somewhere for a long time, San Jose is a good choice. An area called Willow Glen is especially nice for families.
Santana Row has become a popular place to hang out for all age groups, and there seems to be a solid 20's, 30's crowd there in the evenings. You'll find many good restaurants in this area as well as in downtown and in Willow Glen.
You'd find considerable theater, symphony, ballet, and museums in the area and in the general Bay Area. National tours come to San Jose and/or San Francisco. Most people spend a lot of time outdoors, also. Lots of hiking, biking, etc. Nature's gym isi right outside the door and usable all year long.
Public transportation is not what is should be. You'd definitely need a car in San Jose--or limit what you want to get to.
Others
Best things about San Jose are:
Climate - mild year-round
Location - in the San Francisco Bay Area
Jobs - part of Silicon Valley
Food - large variety, fresh produce, authentic ethnic cuisines
People - diverse cultures

Not so good:
Transporation: VTA bus and light rail if you live or work near a station
Cost of living: housing, food, transportation are higher than elsewhere in the nation
Arts & culture: not great, but you are only an hour from San Francisco :)

Welcome to San Jose! Bienvenido a San Jose!
I have a friend that's a DJ in San Jose, and it's a nice place to live. If I was you I would do a google search on San Jose. It will tell you all the fun and cool places to hang out. You can also go on yahoo as well. I live in Missouri and I can get all the latest stuff that's happening in Memphis. I think you should try it! Have a safe and fun time in San Jose!!!!
San Jose is a great place to live!
It offers such a variety of cultures and backgrounds. And there is everything from painting art, to quilting art here!
The cost of living in the silicon valley is obviously not going to be that cheap.
The weather is great. It is fairly moderate. Usually sunny. Always pretty.
The public transportation is one of the greatest things about San Jose. The VTA system has buses, lightrails, and personal transportation services. San Jose also has the option of taking BART and CALTrain.
If you are thinking of moving here, you are certainly making a great choice!

Hope this helps! =]
I live in Hawaii now, but before I moved here, I lived & grew up in San Jose. Arts & Culture is mixed b/c there are all kinds of different people that live there from everywhere, so it's not like you will be singled out. Cost of living is indeed expensive, make sure you got a good paying job & save your money. Weather speaks for itself. In the Winter & Fall it's cold as hell & rainy (Oct-March), in the Spring, it's beautiful, nice & warm/breezy but that's allergy season for most people they suffer during that time. And for the summer it is HOT as hell, temperature rises up to 107 for a few days sometimes. To me, i feel like San Jose is getting hotter during the summer every year. It's good to have AC during the summer. Public Transportation is awesome! Aside from taking the bus, they have the Light Rail & The Bart available for everyone. If you are going to live in San Jose, I suggest somewhere in between Milpitas/Santa Clara/North San Jose areas near the business areas b/c it's SAFER. And the neighborhood is newer, quieter. Stay away from these areas, for they are bad/dangerous areas, noisy & old looking:

KING RD.
ALUM ROCK
WHITE RD.
QUIMBY RD.
TULLY RD.
JACKSON AVE.
STORY RD.
MCKEE RD.
and any place in DOWNTOWN SAN JOSE

Hope this helps....
