Travel Info Friend visiting from out of town - looking for ideas. Travel Tips Places to see and go to in and near San Jose: -Winchester Mystery House -Egyptian Museum -Santa Cruz Beach and Boardwalk -Lick Observatory -Monterey Bay Aquarium -Paramounts Great America -Santana Row -Missions at San Juan Bautista -Raging Waters -The Tech Museum -Bonfante Gardens Family Theme Park (it's been re-named but I can't remember the new name) Others Well.... I can't really think of anything particularly IN San Jose itself, but if your willing to go there there is the San Diego Zoo and you can go to Santa Cruz Beach/Beach Boardwalk, Plus the San Francisco Wharf, and take a ferry to the Alcatraz Prison. I'm sorry I couldn't think of anything in San Jose, and i don't know how out of town your friend is, but these are some of the places I love to visit. I truly hope i helped. San Jose isn't much of a tourist destination, but there are a few places to take out-of-towners. I recommend Santana Row -- it's a unique experience and you could easily spend half a day window-shopping, people-watching, and dining. Across the stree is the Winchester Mystery House, also a great place to take visitors. The Tech Museum downtown is OK -- not great but worth a look. The Rosicrusian Museum is also quite good. The History San Jose museum has some interesting old buildings, all of which are open on the weekend. If there are kids involved, try the Children's Museum and Happy Hollow. Also fun for someone not from the West is the San Jose Flea Market, which is like stepping into a bit of Mexico. There's lots more to do if you actually leave San Jose and go south to Capitola, Santa Cruz, Monterey, or Carmel. Or north to San Francisco, Napa, and Sonoma.
