Does it ever snow in san jose california? |
Travel Info Does it ever snow in san jose california? Travel Tips No, not really. It did snow once here in the South Bay, though it was back in 1975-76--sometime then. My daughter has a friend who lives in SJ near Milpitas and her dad said they recently got a bit of snow. Now remember, it's usually more like ice than true snow (but in the 70's it was really snow), and it's usually only like an inch or so. Others The mountains will usually get a light dusting of snow every year, lasts about a week. But in the valley floor, in San Jose proper, no. Every four or five years we'll get one really cold day and there might actually be tiny snowflakes in the air for about an hour - I've never seen one actually land on the ground though. But that's as close as we get to actual snow. NO, there is no snow in the Bay Area, during the night in the winter, you will find your windshield on your car with ice, that's from the cold weather. Not snow. Santa Cruz has snow. You can go up there, it's only 30 mins away from San Jose. It snowed in San Jose in 1976. I have a picture of myself standing in the snow. It was not ice - it was snow. Those who say differently must not be old enough to remember. It has snowed since then, but nothing that really sticks to the ground. In the years that I lived there, no, it didn't- though one of the other writers is correct that it does snow in the mountains in the winter. San Jose is located in a valley between 2 sets of mountains- the Santa Cruz ( Holy Cross in English) mountains to west, and the lower end of the Sierra chain to the east. Both of these ranges routinely get light dustings of snow in the winter, usually in January and sometimes February. But San Jose itself only rarely if ever actually sees snow. Sometimes I would look out my window and see some snow on the top of Mt. Umunuhm in the winter ( this is the tallest mountain in the Santa Cruz range, with a height of over 4,400 feet at the summit) but this was rather rare. It definitely snows on Mount Hamilton, which is located to the east and north of San Jose. That mountain has an observatory at its summit- it's the white domed object that one can see from the air when flying into the SJ airport in the daylight hours. Hope this answers your question. Someone who used to live in San Jose. No it never snows in San Jose |
