Who owns the winchester mystery house? |
Travel Info i resently went there and asked my tour guide, and she said she didn't know. I know it's a CA historical building, but a private party owns it. Who is it? Travel Tips This was asked before- back in 2005 - here's the answer from then: Subject: Re: Winchester Mystery House Answered By: juggler-ga on 26 Feb 2005 23:32 PST Rated: Hello. The Winchester Mystery House is owned by the Farris and Raney families of the Bay Area. From a Mercury News article: "Los Gatos police arrested Ray K. Farris II... Farris, 59, whose family owns the Winchester Mystery House..." source: Mercury News, "Man faces charges in scuffle with boy," February 10, 2004, http://www.ledger-enquirer.com/mld/mercu... Additionally, using my local public library's newspaper database, I was able to locate a 1997 article in the Fresno Bee about this subject. From that article: " County records over the last half-century show the Winchester Mystery House's owners to be two long-established Bay Area families: the Farrises and the Raneys. They descend from John and Mayme Brown -- who took over the house and its property in 1923, a year after the death of its namesake, repeating-rifle heiress Sarah Winchester... ...Documents on file at the county recorder's office indicate the attraction's owning partners as Edna May Raney of Belmont; Gerard Raney of Redwood City; Ray Farris Sr. of Monte Sereno; Ray Farris II and Sandra Farris of Monte Sereno; and M. Valerie Bovone of San Jose." source: "Ownership of Winchester House its biggest mystery safety and privacy keep owners of San Jose landmark quiet." Jake Batsell Knight-Ridder Newspapers. The Fresno Bee: Jun 1, 1997. pg. F.4 Gerard Raney is also mentioned as manager of "Winchester Mystery House LLC" in this Hoover's profile: "Hoover Profile: Winchester Mystery House LLC "Manager Gerard Raney Manager Elizabeth Raney" http://www.hoovers.com/free/co/factsheet... ----------- search strategy: "owns the winchester mystery house" farris "winchester mystery" raney "winchester mystery" I hope this helps. Others Sarah L Winchester: In 1884, a wealthy widow named Sarah L. Winchester began a construction project of such magnitude that it was to occupy the lives of carpenters and craftsmen until her death thirty-eight years later. According to public records the title on the house shows as: Primary Owner: WINCHESTER INVESTMENTS LLC Mailing Address: 3161 OLSEN DR SAN JOSE, CA 95117 |
