Does Saudi Arabia Have a Free Press? |
Travel Info Is the media in Saudi Arabia free from government censorship? If someone published a newspaper that was, for example, highly critical of the Wahabbists or of King Abdullah, would it be tolerated or would the government shut it down? Travel Tips no, and there will be non, it is all awned by them or controlled by them, Source(s): i live there, Other Travel Tips There is no prepublication censorship of Saudi newspapers, editors understand that articles expressing opposition to the government or its policies are unacceptable, and they exercise self-censorship. The Ministry of Information effectively supervises all periodicals through the Press Law of 1964. This law requires the formation of a fifteenmember committee to assume financial and editorial responsibility for each privately owned newspaper. The members of these committees have to be approved by the Ministry of Information. In contrast to the local press, the foreign press is heavily censored before being permitted into the kingdom. The objective of the censors is not only to remove politically sensitive materials but also to excise advertisements deemed offensive to public morality. That's the way it is. Take care. I can't top H's excellent, objective, articulate and accurate answer. you have got to be kidding no it is not free and o,yes, immediately no editor is stupid to allow publishing anything like that i think that you should try and tell us about your experiance |
