What is it like wearing a niqab (covering your face)?

Travel Info
Is it not hot and difficult to breathe? I tried to wear one once but didn't like it.

I hope you don't mind me asking..I'm curious? Do you get used to it?

(BTW I placed this in the Saudi section as I guess a lot of women wear it there..And wanted real answers not anti Muslim diatrbes)

The face veil is a subject of different religious viewpoints. Some groups feel its a must, some dont.. Hair covering "YES"... I myself while in Saudi, do not wear a face veil and my Saudi husband is fine with my choice. I have female girlfriends some who do and some who choose not to. Its a personal cultural choice.. There are some religious scholars who deem it a must and others dont.. Now.. to elaborate on this.. I tried it once and could absolutely not stand it.. I have mild asthma and this seemed to highten it for me. I was coughing and couldnt breathe and felt like I had a gag on.. Also I couldnt see well.. Some of our sidewalks arent in the best condition and I felt like I would trip at every entersection while walking.. So for my personal choice, I choose not to wear a veil.. No Mattawah (religious police) has every bothered me about that... I have found in the past 5 years that Saudi ladies are becoming much more worldly and modern thinking.. The age old "black" cloak is going the way of the wind... In keeping with Islamic morals.. they do cover their bodies, but with a much more modern fabric and scarf than the age old Black hot sweltering cloak of an "abaya".. You'll see women now walking through town wearing concervative clothing that doesnt reveil anything, and wearing a nice stylish scarf, and yet keeping within the bounds of Islam.. Its sort of refreshing to me..

i am unsure, i know women who wear it, they feel strange not too. it becomes a part of your outfit like shoes! it has a lot to do with faith. the more faith the more covered. however it also has to do with culture. some countrys require it. its best not to judge by the outside, find out who the person inside is.
Since we are not staying in Saudi Arabia, my wife used to wear 鈥渘eqab鈥?as a part of her outfits, and I observed that she never feels uncomfortable.
its normal n there is no problem while wearing it
u can choose cloth of such material which is not so much silky
and offcourse breath easily
there r different kinds of niqab..i've tried one kind and it was good but when i used it for more than 2 hours i had a headache
but i've tried another one and i liked it.
i've never felt that i can't breathe in both kinds
niqab actually got good features:it covers ur face expression
also,it covers ur face so that when u see someone that u know and u don't want him/her to see u,niqab will help:D

i hope this helps
It is very difficult to wear but I guess once you get to using it it's OK. Some of the Bedouin women wear it all the time and I mean ALL THE TIME , they never take it off unless to wash for prayers.
If you have to wear it use the cotton type with eyelets they are more common so logically they must be more comfortable.
Covering ones face for any reason is not normal. Unless they are dead. All of the reasons mintee mentioned plus some, are the reasons Allah asks Muslim women to cover everything, EXCEPT face, hands and feet.
I know you asked what it was like to wear it. I just get uptight about the the whole covering the face thing. Also in Quran, Allah says that men and woman should enjoy the beauty of life and nature equally. covered women do not breath the same nor see the same when their face is covered.
