Travel Tips
i'll bet all the negative answerers are from folks who never set foot in Saudi. Only from hearsay of what other negative people talk about without any insight or knowledge first hand of a country.
Anyways.. I have lived, schooled and worked in both SaudiArabia and USA.. (I have dual citizenship of both). I now am married, live, and work in Saudi..
There are things about both countries I love dearly..
But you ask about Saudi culture..
Saudi's are as modern as any every day American.. The news just doesnt show any of this to you people. We have modern homes, nice furniture, beds, central heat and air (although I dont know why we need heaters. haha). I myself have a western modern kitchen with maytag washer, dryer, kenmore microwave, GE dishwasher, oven and fridge. I could go on about the modern things we aquire here.. Anyways.. I love the family culture here. Family means so much to arabs/muslims. .. You dont go 3 days without visiting someone in your extended family. You always expect kids, grandparents and the whole brood to stop buy.. Anytime of the day.. When you visit someone, they always share their food, no matter how much they have, they will find something to share with you. Afternoon tea/coffee is a must.. They serve you tea or coffee with either dates or some little tidbit of a sweet pastry.
Families are strong and stay together, help each other and never loose sight of you. There are no latch key kids. There is always someone to watch them after school. There are no elderly throw a ways.. No such thing as an old folks/retirement center. The houses here are large and everyone is welcome to live there till they die.. Children are expected to house their elderly parents till the end. Women dependants stay home till they get married. They will not go out and have an apartment and live alone. They are allowed to work, but not live alone. Also the sons are allowed to live at home till they like. Some even bring the new wife to live in his families home till they save enough to build their own home. This sharing of expenses is very special here and helps everyone. It also helps the new wife to bond into the family.
Everyone here shares. Charity is high here.. Also the moral fiber of everyone is high.. No adultery, messing around, low divorce. A girl can walk out at night full well knowing she wont be harrassed or subject to rape..
Children are schooled highly in good morals... I in fact want to raise my own children here prior to sending them off to USa to find their other roots..
Others
I'm pretty sure people in SA are not on here. They are not allowed to have interactions with people like us. People from the United States.
Why, hold on to the old stuff? Make your own traditions.
I like the way they treat women as second class citizens.
Generosity.
In Saudi Arabia, If a guest came to visit you, the host will be very generous to satisfy his guest. (food, bedroom ...etc).
Being nice with stranger is another thing. So if any stranger was asking or he's lost, they will help.
They are helpfull, for example, if you have a flat tire on the highway, they will stop to help you out (untill the poliece men come to help you).

Another thing, it's related to religion more than tradition, the women have to wear Abaya and cover their face. Because if you have a diamond, you'll try to protect it and keep it safe as much as you can. Good Jealousy is one of the best traditions that we have. I guess western ppl they feel it when they see their young girls hanging out with boys but they can't do anything cuz it's their culture.

Man, how could you let your wife or daughter to wear a bikini and every body is looking at her boobs and booty?!!!
I'm Saudi and it's ok with me to talk and chat with other people (wherever they are from).
how the counrty changes in the month ramadan, where people sleep in day time or work for only 4 hours a day, and in the night every person is awake and having fun, visiting families, being invited for food, people feel happier in ramadan,

also, love and hate at the same time, stores close for prayer,
