Are Christians free to worship.....? |
Travel Info in Saudi Arabia ? Are they treated with dignity & respect by all Saudis or do they have to keep a low profile ? Travel Tips Legally, Christians may not worship in Saudi Arabia, though many expats who are Christians get together and hold worship services. On the compounds, religious rules are also said to be much more relaxed, along with the other rules. Officially speaking, though, Islam is the only religion legally practiced in Saudi Arabia, and it is technically against the law to haave any religious book other than the Koran or any religious symbols not related to Islam (such as a cross). A Christian won't be treated badly by the majority of Saudis, but the religious police will treat Christians, as well as people of religions other than Islam, very badly. There are some stories about people being mistreated for their religions in Saudi Arabia on human rights' websites. If a Saudi were to become a Christian, he would most definitely have to keep a low profile, because converting to a religion (other than Islam) is punishable by death, though I hear that there are several steps taken before reaching such an ultimatum. Given the school system and immersion in Islam only though, it isn't very common, and I've never heard of it happening. A foreign Christian would be accepted, though his/her religion wouldn't be embraced by the entirely Muslim population. Others probably not but worship God anyway just pray carefully Christians can't bring anything that is not Islam into the country. Meaning no Bibles, no cross, etc. They can worship in private but they can't worship in public. It's best for Christians to keep a low profile in Saudi Arabia. They are treated nice in Saudi Arabia. They are allowed to hold private services, but not openly and no churches.. You might think this is harsh, but SaudiArabia is a closed Country, you only come here by invite. So you agree to the terms and conditions set forth by the country before you enter. If you dont like this, dont come.. simple as that.. If a neighbor of yours invited you over to dinner and they are vegetarians, you wouldnt bring your roast over and eat it in front of them. You would follow the rules of their house.. right? well its the same in Saudi. You follow the rules of the country of which you were INVITED into to visit/work... deal with it politely... Keep your religion between yourself and God. Muslims respect people of the book (Christians) but do not condone preaching. Many hold underground bible session reinforcing their feeling of being persecuted in this Muslim country, becoming even more Christian than necessary. Best to keep your religion between yourself and God where it should be. hey beautiful i dont mean any offence to anyone but i have heard that they are not allowed.. i think it was against the law?? is that true?? Really nice question ya Aussie , I think they have their own areas in SA , but i don't think there is churches . About how Saudi people treat them, I think Saudi people (without any hard feelings) treat all non Saudi people the same with not so nice treatment, but its OK, not bad also. I talk alot , so i will give the chance to others. Thanks Aussie again for this Question. |
