just let them know that you are going on this road trip..if your 18 or older, they cant stop you. Be aware of everything. Dont stop in remote places, and keep in contact. Your family will let up on you once this trip is done and they realize you will be ok. I know. I am from a overprotective family also.
leave without telling them. then call a few hours into the trip and tell them it was spontaneous and that you hadn't planned it in advance so you couldn't tell them. you will be too far to turn back. hang up the phone and later say you lost service.
