I'm interested in info. regarding Tacoma WA and Pierce Co. in general.? |
Travel Info I'm going to be moving to Pierce Co. within the next year and would appreciate any info. about the area i.e. weather, job outlook, good neighborhoods, and anyhting else relevant. Thanks in advance!! Travel Tips Hey there! I used to live in both Lakewood & Steilacoom. Weather is nice. Not too hot or cold, about the same as it is in Seattle area. You're on the West side of the mountains, which typically means you won't get four seasons throughout the year. This year, of course, that changed with a snow storm. For jobs it all depends on what you want. I worked at Target in Issaquah, but still lived in Lakewood. The rent was MUCH cheaper. So it worked out best for me to drive 45 minutes to get to work and pay the gas prices. That was 2 years ago and now with gas prices so high, it wouldn't be worth it. So it all depends on what you're looking for and if you're willing to drive outside the city of Tacoma. There are good and bad neighborhoods everywhere you go. I lived off of I5 and Hwy 512. It was a pretty good area. I don't ever remember anything really bad happening in the apt complex that I lived in. It's right across from a storage center which is very nice if you need that. It's also within walking distance from Parkland Putters, an awesome mini golf course. Further down on Hosmer isn't necessarily the best area. Tacoma & Lakewood run together as in wanting city limits. There's a lot of really good restaurants in the Tacoma/Lakewood area. Our favorites are The Ram 10019 59th Ave SW, Lakewood, Johnnie's Greek Cafe at 9602 Bridgeport Way SW, Tacoma, and The French Hen at 8807 Bridgeport Way SW in Lakewood. Steilacoom is a really nice town to live in, but costs more than Lakewood. Steilacoom is mainly homes to buy and rent, with less apartments to rent. My in-laws have lived there for about 30 years and absolutely love it!! I hope all this information is helpful. Good Luck!!! Others north end and west end of county is much cleaner. Tacoma has a very high crime rate and is a City to be avoided. I suggest you concentrate on Seattle. I live in Tacoma and have lived here for almost 7 years. I honestly love Tacoma. There is going to be crime anywhere. and Seattle (depending on where) is just as bad or even worse with crime. If you are not familiar with living in a city it may be all new to you. I like Tacoma because it is a city but not all crowded, t is spread out, you dont have everything in one area. There are alot of nice neighborhoods everywhere. Tacoma is really cleaning up, its not like it use to be like 10 years ago. Dont worry you will be fine, Tacoma is great. Me |
