What will be the dominant form of transportation in Seattle in 20 years....? |
Travel Info And are there any plans to close any streets to cars? Also what will happen to the suburbs and single-family neighborhoods? Travel Tips They have closed 3rd Avenue downtown to cars during peak hours to allow for bus travel - but this is temporary while they work on the bus tunnel. I suspect that in 20 years Seattle's dominant form of transportation will still be the vehicle... as we are not progressing as well as other cities in the alternative form of transportation department. Buses are available but unreliable, and no one likes waiting in the rain... light rail is in the works, but we are far behind compared to other cities, and truthfully, we like our cars. We might buy a more eco-friendly vehicle, or make use of shared vehicles like the FlexCar, but it will still be a car. Source(s): My opinion. Other Travel Tips I don't intend to be there that long so I wouldn't know what to tell you. It'll reach a generally acceptable homogeneity and then who knows what. It'll still be cars. Only the cars on the freeway will be robotically controlled. You get on I-5, put it into auto pilot, and relax. I think light rapid transit more than likely buses. Seattle has a serious problem because Governor Lowery at the time (mid 80's to mid 90's) never gave thought to "infastructure" and therefore created a quagmire that will require years of study, creativity, and ten times the amount of money to find a solution! Thanks to all the government agencies entrusted to be the "watch dog" and lead planning agency regarding these issues during development! Just another burocracy that has failed the public and filled the pockets of others! I suspect "FOOT" would be the appropriate answer giving the path of destruction this country is headed in! |
