What is Seattle like NOW? |
Travel Info I grew up in Seattle up until I was 23 years old and left in 2000 to live in London, UK. Though I have been back for visits twice over the past seven years, how has Seattle changed? I am trying to figure it out if it is worth moving back - is it too expensive, are there enough jobs, what's rent like now? Travel Tips Seattle is amazing! I love it here. It has changed a bit. Bellevue the sister city to Seattle continues to grow and more and more people move there. Issiquah has become much bigger and that woodsy feel is almost lost, unfortunately. Seattle is still beautiful. The best city there is in my opinion. There has been few changes downtown other than the Aquarium is getting renovations. I am not sure if the cruise ships came to Seattle in 2000 but there are many cruise lines that now come to Seattle going to Alaska and sometimes CA. The market and shopping is about the same. Maybe a little bigger. But mostly the same. Prices of houses went up a little. Not much though because it is already way over priced, but totally worth it! I would definitely more back! Still the cleanest most beautiful in U.S.!!!! Others heh I did just the opposite I moved from london to seattle its been about 1 and half years since Ive been there but last time I seen it it still looked like seattle this answer your question? From '00 to '07 the changes have been relatively insignificant. Transportation with the Sounder train has made things a little easier, and taken some of the weight off of parking costs if you're going to the right areas. As it was Bellevue and Redmond are still horrendously expensive (as they're right next to the primary Microsoft campus), and living down town prices haven't done a too terribly much. Increases are expected anywhere. The biggest change is south King County (Kent, Auburn, etc), where prices have gone up quite a lot. The spike in real estate prices has slowed, but due to Boeing, houses there were in such high demand that the obvious thing happened . . . They got more expensive. As for having enough jobs, it completely depends on your field and qualifications. I don't think a PhD level psychologist will ever have a "hard time" finding work in Seattle, and at the same time, I don't think anyone will have an easy time finding a high paying job with little experience and no degree. For me, finding a job in the past few years has been exactly the same difficulty wise. Best of luck! Just like in 2000, the cost of living is still expensive. The major changes that I see would be transportation. There is a lot of work being done right now. There is a light rail that will go from SeaTac to the U district. And there is a vote on how to replace the Alaska Way viaduct. But other then that, it is probably similar to when you left. Except the Seahawks are good and the Mariners are terrible. over crowded, over priced, and under paid |
