Any Los Angeles natives who moved to Seattle?

Travel Info
I'm thinking of moving to Seattle. Currently live and was raised in Los Angeles. Here are some questions I have:

-Is the general attitude in Seattle different than in L.A.?

-Where are some hip yet, least crime areas to live for a single 36 y.o. attractive woman?

-What area has the most dog population in Seattle? (I ask this because I own a highly specialized pet business in L.A.)

Thanks!

Travel Tips
Two of my friends had lived in LA for a few years before they moved here. They were surprised how relaxed it is here compared to LA. They felt extremely overdressed the first time they went to a night club. I'm from the East Coast, and was surprised, too, how people wear jeans, sneakers, and hoodies to go out. No one bothers with umbrellas either, despite the rain. People scoot & bike all year 'round in all kinds of weather. The New Yorker magazine is often quoted. They said about Seattle, "They are backpacky, but nice."

I recommend that you get familiar with the various neighborhood in Seattle. Not everyone wears hoodies, even if it's generally more relaxed than LA. Here is a good site that lists the neighborhoods on it's navigation bar, and offers a concise description of each. Use Google for further info. Each neighborhood has it's own Chamber of Commerce, which may be helpful.

My LA friends chose to settle in Queen Anne (Lower Queen Anne to be more specific), and I'd recommend it to you, too. It's hip, but not full of subculture, like say Capitol Hill. Real Estate/ Condos/ Apartments are expensive, which can be a downside, but ensures low crime. It's suburbs meets urban. Less Crime, strong neighborhoods, but with great restaurants, bars, night spots, and shops.

The Paragon is my favorite place in Queen Anne. It gives you a good idea what's typical, too, of this neighborhood.

You could look at Belltown, too. It's hip and more urban. They are having a bit of a drug problem, there, though, and it's on the verge of downtown, which means you have all the problems of urbania: bad traffic, higher crime, beggars, and a little dirtier. Belltown is fast converting apartment buildings into condos. The area is rapidly changing. Whole foods just moved in, and there's talk of adding more large, national chains. I prefer the small businesses that are here to the large chains, but it's a sign of the times here. Google Seattle & gentrification for more info.

Here is an article on gentrification regarding my neighborhood, Capitol Hill. It's funny that the developers are promoting their newly constructed condos as being located in a fun, diverse neighborhood with tons of character, but it's their condos that are driving away the diversity & character.

Check out the Queen Anne Chamber of Commerce to see if your pet shop fits into the neighborhood.

There are other places where your highly specialized pet business fits in. Check out the Eastside, which is suburban, but close to the city. Two places in the Eastside where Microsoft offices are prominent: Redmond & Bellevue. Bellevue is a major city, too. Also, South Lake Union is growing fast. Paul Allen, co-founder of Microsoft, is working hard to gentrify the area. He owns Vulcan, the major real estate development company that's changing that area. South Lake Union is very close to the Whole Foods I mentioned above. They are hoping to turn South Lake Union into a major bio-tech center.

Here's the website maintained by Vulcan to promote their vision for South Lake Union.

i lived in san diego before i moved back up to seattle. the attitude is seatle is great. better than socal were people tend to be fake. im sure you know what im talking about. as for places to live thas are hip and low crime, well pretty much anywhere really. crime is pretty low here. you can live downtown just stay away from 2nd street. alot of rehab centers for crackheads out there. the u district is cool if you dont mind partying with the college kids. and yes seattle is very dog friendly. they have places you can take your dog all over downtown
Stay in the Peoples Republik of Kaliphornia with the rest of your hippy, liberal, useless ilk, where you belong :-).And stay OUT of the hunting section, where you don't belong :-).
Just thinking about hippys made me throw up a little bit in my mouth, nasty.....
