Can the express lanes in Seattle along I-5 be used by solo drivers and non-residents? |
Travel Info Can the express lanes in Seattle along I-5 be used by solo drivers and non-residents? Travel Tips Yes, you can use the express lanes as a solo driver and/or non-resident. BUT many of the dowtown exits and on-ramps are for HOV (2+) only. The Ravenna on-ramp is HOV only, as are the Pike/Pine street on/offramps and the Columbia Street On/off ramps. There is no access from the Express lanes to 520 or I-90. Here is web site where you can get schedule information (which direction the express lanes are working) and a map of the exits and whether they are HOV only or not. http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/northwest/king/e... Others Yes. There's no problem about driving solo in the express lanes, and you don't have to be a resident. Just stay out of the HOV lanes if you're by yourself in the car. One thing, though: the express lanes have fewer exits than the main lanes. Make sure you plan accordingly if you need to get off of the freeway while you're still in Seattle. Here is the site that will answer your question.. http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/northwest/king/e... http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/northwest/king/e... Non residents can use them but they aren't really express lanes. They are carpool lanes so you need at least one other person in the car with you (and yes kids count). the express lanes can be used by anyone, solo drivers or not, resident or not, no problem. like mentioned above, just make sure you get off when/where you need to because the exits are limited. There is at least one downtown exit that is restricted to 2 or more in the car. |
