Has anyone flown to Seattle and drove to Vancouver?

Travel Info
Anything I have to worry about? I know I'll be crossing the border, etc. How was the drive?

Travel Tips
I live in Seattle, drive to Vancouver a lot. I'm presuming you mean Vancouver B.C. (in Canada). There is also a Vancouver Washington near Portland :)

To consider:

If renting, make sure you let the rental car company know you are planning to take the car to Canada. Sometimes certain cars cannot go across the border, and you want to make sure you have one that is allowed.

You can do the drive in 2.5-3 hours if the timing is right. It's all on the freeway until you get into Vancouver itself. But yes, on a Friday afternoon, it can take 5+ hours to do the drive and border crossing. Avoid rush hour in both Seattle and Vancouver.

Gas up in the US before you cross the border. Gasoline is much more expensive in Vancouver.

Make sure you have a valid driver's license and birth certificate with you (or better yet, a passport). Soon they will require a passport to get back into the US. If you aren't a US citizen, check with your local Embassy to check if there are visa requirements for you to go to Canada.

Listen to the radio as you get to Bellingham - many stations give wait times at the border. There are two crossings (Peace Arch on I-5, and the Truck Crossing a couple of miles east). Sometimes it can be worth it to go to the other crossing. But it's a straight shot into Vancouver from I-5 so it's better to stay on the freeway and go through the Peace Arch crossing.

The border towns on both sides usually accept both US and Canadian currency, but most places in Vancouver do not accept US dollars. Either change some over after you cross the border or get some cash from a cash machine.

Have a great trip!

The Drive is about 6 hours but not bad
Very beautiful scenery. Long put 5 1/2 to 6 hrs. Border crossing is very easy.
According to google earth there are only 140 miles from downtown seattle to downtown vancouver, a good 2:30 hours.

I did exactly that for my honeymoon. We stayed in a dinky town called Anacortes for the first night (we took a ferry to the San Juan Islands-don't miss them) which is right in the middle. It wasn't a bad drive at all (all interstate) and border crossing was a snap. This is a trip we hope to take again soon.
I live in Spokave and I've been in Seattle and Vancouver, just not in same month.
