What are the good, safe suburban areas surrounding seattle? |
Travel Info I understand that Seattle is expensive, but you may be able to get more for your money outside of the city. Travel Tips I am Seattle area native and spent 3 decades refining safe and suburban for myself and family. If you say "safe and suburan" relating to the greater Seattle area, nothing but the Eastside fits better. In the Eastside, it's not little islands of safe and suburban (like expensive neighborhoods in Seattle) - virtually anywhere you make home, odds are you have a wide radius that you can feel safe to walk at night. There are some exceptions, Crossroads in Bellevue has a lot of cheap apartments and new poor immigrants and crime has risen steeply but it's a pretty small area. Let's compare: Seattle has a city-data.com crime index of 595.4. EASTSIDE: Redmond, Kirkland, Bellevue, Issaquah, and Sammamish have city-data.com crime indexes of 90.1 (Sammamish) up to a high of 249.9 (Bellevue). SOUTH END: Keep driving - Renton: 630.4, Kent 587.0, Auburn: 672.6 NORTH END: This is a real mixed bag for crime!! I grew up in Brier (95.1) and went to school in Bothell (192.4)! But then the flip side is - Everett (614.6), Lynnwood (501.0). The north end is a bit more affordable. Brier is kind of a neat Seattle area secret because there are literally something like 3 commercial storefronts running there so it's almost nothing but homes. f you're going for hip suburban, the North End might not be for you, but if you want quiet neighborhoods and less snobby, Brier, Bothell and even Edmonds (220.5) are good places overall. But an important point is the North End is affordable! General impressions are the Eastside is stereotyped as trendy latte sipping and the North End is more stereotyped as a little run-down and lack of culture. Aside from convenience, cost etc., you have to drive through a place and just feel for what is a match for your family and personality. May you find your ultimate Seattle area living experience! Source(s): www.city-data.com Other Travel Tips Bellevue and Kirkland are awesome, but still expensive. If you go farther south or north it gets cheaper. Puyallup is south and it's a lot cheaper but sort of far. Tacoma is near but it's also nasty. Renton Top notch Kirkland or Bellevue or Redmond or Mercer Island Nice, but not as expensive: Bothell, Woodinville, Issaquah, Shoreline. A little less, but still reasonable for living: Kent, Renton, Tukwila, some parts of West Seattle, Mukilteo, Everett Enumclaw, Buckley, North Bend, Issaquah, Hobart are all really nice communities and worth the money to live in |
