What are some inexpensive neighborhoods with efficient public transportation to downtown Seattle? |
Travel Info I'm twenty-three years old and looking for an area that has studios in the $500-$600 range, close to efficient public transportation, and not far from downtown Seattle. Something that slightly resembles Chicago's nothside, my home town. Or close to any good jazz clubs. Travel Tips Ignore everyone telling you to move to Tacoma, Kent, Bellevue, or wherever else. If you're from Chicago and like the city feel, stay in Seattle proper. You could try West Queen Anne (14th Ave, 13th Ave, around there) ... this is a bit away from the action on Lower Queen Anne (30 min walk, 5 min bus ride), but downtown is still accessible (10 min bus ride). The best part is it's definitely cheaper than other neighborhoods, and you might even be able to land an apartment with a water view. I had a huge 1BR there up on the hill with a water view for $750. A smaller Studio would be cheaper obviously. You might also check around Beacon Hill. The neighborhood isn't as nice, but it's not bad, and it's still close to downtown. I also agree with the other poster that Ballard (where I live now) is a good option, though the prices have been going up there. Others Bellevue but it is more expensive than what you are looking for, Tacoma meets the price range has good transportation system and on 6th ave there is Jazzbones and a few other cool jazz clubs Efficient Public Transportation in Seattle? Never heard of it... Seriously though, the only transportation we have is the bus, and it's not quick. Probably your best bet would be the University District by UW. Otherwise, you should try Kent or Auburn and take the Sounder commuter train into the city. Magnolia Queen Anne Hill Belltown There currently is no efficient public transportation. The new Sapphire Condos might still have one or two studios left. http://www.sapphire85.com/ http://seattlecondosandlofts.com/... In 2008 Fini Condos is opening up (new condo building). *note to the poster below me, you can get a studio for $500k. Keep this in mind if you are NOT moving any time soon: There will be a new light rail system in several years. Check out the map, and see if it goes near any places you've been checking out. http://www.soundtransit.org/x1171.xml... http://www.seattlechannel.org/issues/sou... Ballard is close to downtown, you can get there within 15 minutes by just taking the 15 bus. But ballard is pretty expensive. Queen Anne is expensive, so is Magnolia. The closer you get to downtown, the more expensive housing gets. Now for $500? I think you'd be very lucky to find ANYTHING still in SEATTLE for $500. Surrounding areas[thus not so close to downtown] are cheaper. Traffic sucks. But you'll get used to it. Sorry i didn't help much... Federal Way, Kent, Des Moines. Busses and Sound Transit runs both ways. Bout 10 miles out of town. Any closer, and the proices go way up. |
