Am visiting Seattle this weekend, what are some good things to do and places to see in two days? |
Travel Info I'd also like to do a 5 to 8 mile run, so if I can combine running with some sight-seeing that would be just great! Travel Tips All of the suggestions so far for things to do are good. For running, you could try running around Green Lake (about 3 miles each lap). It's near Woodland Park Zoo. If you want to run through the forest on trails instead of pavement, there's a nice 3 mile loop in Discovery Park (right on the water in Magnolia). Others Seattle is better for the people than the places. UDub area will have lots of interesting places. Go to the fishmarket downtown, and Safeco is pretty cool too. Folk Life festival is going on at the Seattle Center (Space Needle). If you're into nightlife, there's Pioneer Square and Belltown for clubs/bars. Also there's Fremont (college crowd). Check out pike place market and try the fresh made donuts. You can run Alki from West Seattle Bridge, all the way to the sand and back (about 5 miles for both ways). If you don't have a car, take the water ferry from the water-front docks to get to Alki. The whole way you'll be right next to the water. Make sure you check out Jack Block city park (located south of Salty's restaurant). I usually start my runs there. 3 miles is all I got. There's also the I-90 floating bridge. You'll literally run across the lake, but don't know if you mind running next to 60MPH traffice (there's a concrete barricade). If you do have a car and a lot of time, there's also the Sasquatch music festival going on at the Gorge Amphitheater (Location: George, WA). It's a 2 hour drive, but there are 40 bands playing within two days and 4 hours. The top things are best found in a travel guide; since that lists things you wouldn't like to do, you need a Frommer etc. that lists things by locale and division/type. There's the downtown, the old Seattle underground area, the waterfront and harbor, Mt. Rainier, the university, and the ferry to Port Townsend--the best thing to do with a day, and a place where you could also run. The light is fantastic. It has old houses also, easy to visit, and the best light in North America plus the quaint downtown. Have a great trip. But remember, it takes three days to see any city adequately. This will be just a foretaste. The Northwest Folklife Festival is going on this weekend. It will be happening through Monday, Memorial Day. It's kind of a "hippy-ish" festival, at least the most so of the ones at the Seattle Center (under the Space Needle). There will be live music at different stages, different booths with various offerings, freebies, and there's amusement park rides to ride! It is a free festival aside from the rides and purchasing things. It's a fun time and the weather should be good for it. You can also visit the Space Needle at the same time which is on the Seattle Center grounds and the EMP (Experience Music Project) if you like! Great weekend to be here. You have to go to Folklife one day. Make sure you walk through Pike Place Market and ship some fresh salmon back home. As far as nightlife goes Pioneer Square is the easiest place for 1 stop binge drinking. As for running. run the harbor steps a few times. Go check out the Space Needle and the EMP it's really cool! Also take a Ferry to Bainbridge and see the Navy ships. Angela |
