Why do most people in Seattle drive less expensive automobiles?

Travel Info
I'm from Boston area and it seems like people drive much more expensive automobiles than people from the Seattle area, even though the average income is simular. Why is this? Are people from Seattle less materialistic?

Travel Tips
Oh wait you said Boston drives more expensive cars, The west coast is full of hippies and respect nature more. I guess they are more practical than Bostonites

They all have heavy Latte habits.
wtf he was asking why theyre LESS expensive. well anyways, i think it depends what area of seattle youre in. but theres alot of ghetto areas so i guess thats what you were lookin at.
gotta make the starbucks bill

But check out Mercer Island, Newcastle, Bellevue, Kirkland, Redmond if you wanna see some nice cars.
it depends what neighborhood you are in. I live in Enumclaw and you see a lot of Hummers and SUV's where as when you just go right into Auburn WA 20 minutes from Seattle you see a lot of ghetto cars and old cadi's
Huh? Where were you when you saw all of these less expensive automobiles? In Seattle, people mostly drive Explorers and other SUVs. Even Hummers. Drives me crazy, because I have to park near all of these people!
There are a few reasons for that.

1. Boston has more salt water damage on cars, therefore cities closer to salt water, if wealthy enough, would replace old cars sooner. Seattle, while on the Sound, is not as salty.

2. Seattle, as the census tells us, is one of the youngest cities in the US and younger people often still have their first cars that they got handed from their parents or bought themselves. While Seattle and Boston might have equal pay scales, many young jobs in the Seattle area are high tech and filled by young people that did not grow up here, which leads me to my third reason.

3. Seattle people are rarely from Seattle. I was born in Florida actually and grew up in California and Idaho. Most people here grew up elsewhere. I would assume that Boston has a lot of lcoal Bostonites that stayed there all their years, and since they move less, they might buy newer cars as a substitute for buying a new house like Seattle people seem to do with regularity.
