Do you live in the state of Washington? |
Travel Info My husband and i are planning a vacation there next summer and besides the space needle , we would like to know of some out of the way places to go to that the normal tourist wouldn't go to. thanks in advance to all who help. Travel Tips Mt Rainier National forest is always magnificent. Lots of nature, waterfalls, animals, and pristineness! At the top of HWY 410 in the park there is Lake Tipsoo untouched by man, you typically see lots of wild animals that are not scared of humans, and it is right off the road, no tedious hiking required, also there is Paradise and Sunrise both phenomenal parks to visit. If it is hot there is a waterpark and amusement in Federal Way WA that is called Wild Waves and Enchanted village there are also neat State Parks by the name of Kanasket and Deep Lake. Also hanging Gardens state park if you are adventurous and ant to hike a little bit. You could go see the Rain Forest in NW WA or NW Trek wildlife preserve in Eatonville WA or there is also a preserve near Sequim Others Well, right by the needle is the Science Fiction Museum and EMP. Website below. As for out of the way places, you didn't mention what interests, sports, or hobbies you like to do so I am answering blind as you what things you like to do. I mean you can join my late night monday bowling group if you like to. Website is listed below. In the photo there, I am on the left and my wife is in the center. If you like coffee, then there is Cafe Vivace or Caffe Vita for the best coffee. Their two websites are listed below. If you like parks for a nice walk, then there are four that are best. Discovery Park, Gas Works Park, Golden Gardens Park, and Greenlake Park. All the links are below. You didn't say if you are renting a car or using the bus. If bus, then call Metro Bus at 206-553-3000 when you get into town to plan your trips. When the recording starts, hit zero to speak to a live person faster. Give them your starting address and address of the park or just say EMP or Needle and they know the address of major locations like those. Then on Saturdays you can get an all day pass, or you can get little paper transfers if you need to change buses. If you are driving a rental car, then use yahoo maps as I think they do Seattle better than mapquest. IMHO If you like to bicycle, then the Burke Gilman Trail is great. Link is below. Well, those are cool things to do, but you didn't say if you were liberal or conservative, so I can't really suggest sex clubs or military museums or whatever.... *smile* cheers, Jonathan http://www.emplive.org/ http://rainierbowling.ee-mail.com/... http://www.espressovivace.com/retail.htm... http://www.caffevita.com/index.php?page=... http://www.seattle.gov/parks/environment... http://www.seattle.gov/parks/parkspaces/... http://www.seattle.gov/parks/parkspaces/... http://www.seattle.gov/parks/parkspaces/... http://www.seattle.gov/parks/burkegilman... I am not in Washington but I know it well. If I were to take a first vacation of at least 2 weeks, in addition to a few days in Seattle (which has much, much more than the space needle!) and Tacoma I would either: (1) Ferry across the Puget Sound to the Olympic Peninsula for a couple of days, then ferry to Victoria BC and southern Vancouver Island (worth at least 3-4 days), then ferry to Vancouver city for 2 - 3 days then return to Seattle via a side trip into the Cascades to the National Park and/or the Snohomish County loop road, OR (2) From Seattle I would take a couple days mountain driving to Okanagan then up the Okanagan Vlley to the wineries area in B.C. surrounding the lake which is worth 2 - 3 days then to Sicamous and Salmon Arm then Kamloops, then on to Vancouver and back to Seattle. Pleasant journey. Snoqualmie falls is about 1 hr. east of Seattle. Has a very nice restaurant overlooking the falls, and a place to stay as well. Newcastle golf club has a nice place to eat and play full or miniature golf, the whole thing overlooks Lake Washington and Seattle. All of the above ideas are great and I highly suggest! I grew up in Seattle and here are somethings I would do with my friends and family. Most are outdoorsy things.. Snoqualamie Falls - A beautiful waterfall with a yummy restaurant over the falls. One cool thing that many of the tourists don't know is that there is a trail that leads to the bottom of the falls, its chilly down there but you come out with amazing pictures! Alki Beach - A beach that gives you the view of Seattle. During the day you can enjoy the scenery and have fun rollerblading. At night you can have a fire on the beach! Also if you like seafood, my all time favorite seafood restaurant is Salty's on Alki, it doesn't hurt that the side overlooking seattle is one giant window and you get a great view! Ferry Anywhere! - Whidbey Island is a quick ferry ride away. The "island" has a cozy small town feel. While on the island you can check out the local shops. Also one of my favorite things to do was to visit Fort Ebey. Fort Ebey was used during WWII and walking through the fort is very eerie! You can walk where ever you want, even underground, there are no tour guides and most of the machinery is still there as well. Lake Quinault - Its a cozy little lodge in the middle of no where! The lodge is on a lake so you can kayak or canoe. There are many trails to hike, many lead to a waterfall. Also in 1937 President Franklin D. Roosevelt visited the lodge. So ther are pictures of him around the restaurant where he sat, its pretty cool. Its a nice place to relax and have no worries. Seattle Underground - Many don't know that the Seattle we know and love and built upon it's ruins. So you can tour the original Seattle that lies beneth the streets. This is aguided tour, so you want to check for the times and dates! The Pink Door - An Italian Restaurant in Seattle, that is a FUN meal! Check out the website and see if it's your cup of tea! There are also a lot of other parks to visit and see, it all depends on what types of things you want to do. Hope this helps!! http://www.snoqualmiefalls.com/... http://www.seattle.gov/tour/alki.htm... http://www.saltys.com/ http://www.southwhidbey.com/ http://www.undergroundtour.com/... http://thepinkdoor.net/ |
