What do I need to know about moving to Seattle?

Travel Info
I am coming to look for housing and want to know opinions about the different areas, transportation, culture, etc. I'm 25, student at U of W, have dogs, and am very into healthy living.

Travel Tips
The University district if you are a student at UW...Good luck finding a place that takes dogs!...I think you may have some prob. with that one....Greenlake has a dog walking park, so maybe look around there...downtown Seattle is out because there is no place to walk your dogs....You may be able to go as far north as Mill Creek for housing..you'll have a long commute though...I wish you the best, and your dogs...don't you have someone that can care for them while you attend school for the first semester until you "feel it out?"....That is what I would do. Find a place for yourself and then once you are here, you will have more time to look for the "right spot!".... It would not be fair or healthy for the dogs to be moved to a place that isn't dog friendly...
Others
What sorts of cultural experiences and activities and such are you into?

If you are very into healthy living, there is a Whole Foods Natural Market just a mile or two north of the UW on Roosevelt and around 65th-ish where you can get a whole host of healthy options for organic foods, premade foods without all of the "traditional" additives and such... Also, a little ways north of that on Aurora near Greenlake, is a PCC Natural Market that's a good choice for the healthy living side.

Aside from that, it's going to depend on how much you are interested in spending, would you mind roommates, will you bike/bus/walk/drive to school, where will you work, etc.? These will all play a role in your location decision.

Just north of the U of W is a good area that is also nice, near Roosevelt High, Greenlake, and going towards Lake City. Places are going to depend on how far away and how nice...
Fremont is a really cool and quirky neighborhood that sounds like it might be really fitting for you (on the little information above), but it can be a bit difficult to find affordable housing so again, I'm not sure what your budget looks like.

All around the U-Dist. you can find easy enough transportation via Metro, the bus system running through the greater Seattle area. You'll be able to get to pretty much anywhere surrounding although there's some spots that get a bit spottier coverage or less frequent coverage depending on which way you go. The UW and U-Dist. themselves are really well connected and you can easily bus from downtown and back with out a problem, to the southend and up north and they are all mostly fairly centrally located so you can go to one area within a few blocks radius to catch busses around.
Seattle is a great city of culture. The whole area, both downtown and the suburbs, have great transportation options for all. Seattle is a dog friendly city- just pick up after your dog. The city is spendy, plan on paying lots of deposits and fees.
