This question is for people in seattle? |
Travel Info what do you think of paying a toll to go over the 520 bridge?bad enough the tacoma narrows bridge is 6.00 round trip. Travel Tips What they were talking about on the news this morning was a $2 toll ($4 round-trip fee). That doesn't seem to be a lot of money, although I've already heard people who said they might go to the other bridge. To save $4. At gas prices what they are. Going down to I-90 would use more than $4 a drive, if 520 was closer. Aside from that, I actually do think, though, that it does sound like a good idea. If it were to stop so many people from driving over, I know that heading eastbound in the evenings is just ridiculous. Perhaps rush hour traffic would be reduced. Hopefully, reduced by people riding public transportation to avoid the fees. Hopefully, there wouldn't be a great slowdown due to toll booths and I heard that there used to be a toll on the 520 bridge at some point. What I haven't heard yet is where the money would go from the tolls if one were in place. I'd like to see it go towards developing Metro and other public transit systems and bike routes and such to further prevent increasing traffic problems. I wouldn't want to necessarily see it going towards helping out the later tolls for rebuilding/520 construction work. Others Stupid. I won't go over the brige again. I was just thinking about this the other day. I live in Seattle, and the rest of the family lives on the Eastside. I was in Oakland, CA and kept have to pay $4 everytime I crossed the bridge to the city. It was really a pain in the bum, as well as a rip off! So to think about $6...ridiculous. Additionally, my job requires me to be on the road throughout the day, and it would be so costly to pay the price to get back and forth from Seattle and the Eastside as I usually need to do. I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I think a pay to use system is best and most fair. People in Gig Harbor should no more have to pay for expansion of 520 than should people in Bellevue have to pay for a new Narrows Bridge. Not to mention folks who live entirely outside the Puget Sound area. As an aside, I think the toll across the Narrows is collected one way, and as little as $1.75 if you have the transponder. |
