Travel Tips
Had to edit my post - thought of more info...

For the fourth, there is always fireworks on lake washington.
By July 1st through 7th, the weather will be nicer, however, it seems every year it manages to rain on the 4th... definately bring a jacket, but you will most likely not need a coat (maybe an umbrella if you use one)... but it's nice enough to wear sundresses (granted you bring a jacket) and tanktops around this time of year.
Boating is amazing in Seattle - a must do.
If you'll be in downtown I suggest eating at Ray's Boat House (over looks the water) good seafood. A really nice occasion restaurant is the Palisade and Canlis.
There is alot of shopping at the downtown Pioneer Square/Westlake Area, which is walking distance (or you can drive) from Pike Place Market and the Waterfront Park. All of which are Seattle must-visits.
There's all the normal cheap hotels/motels/hiltons/westins that are all over the place... but locally, a really cute boutique hotel is the Mayflower Park Hotel. If you want something really fancy, I suggest the Olympic Fairmont Hotel. If you want something out of the city, I suggest the Salish Lodge and Spa... which is a lodge that over looks a waterfall - the falls is a good place to visit anyway while you are in town. A touristy outdoors hike is Mt. Si.
I don't know your age or interests, otherwise I could be more helpful...
A good weekend brunch spot is the Coastal Kitchen on 15th avenue E on Capitol Hill... Early breakfast on the weekdays can be found at Lola and I recommend trying the Dahlia Lounge (or Ettas... really any of the Tom Douglas resturants since he is the local foodie-celebrity!). Go to the Space Needle for dinner (or brunch). Ballard Locks. Alki beach. If you venture North of downtown Seattle, you'll find the Tulalip Casinos which will be the nicest casinos in the state. For night life (not real exciting nightlife around here) I suggest Trinity Night Club.
Others
I don't know about reasonably prices hotels, however, checking the official Seattle website should be helpful.

What to do: I liked the follwoing:

- Seattle underground tour - starts at Pioneer Square
- Ferry tour to Bainbridge Island (Pier 52). The boat ride is great to take pictures of Seattle and Bainbridge Island is a nice place to go
- Space needle - offers a wonderful view of the city
- Check out broadway on Capitol hill - nice places to shop and eat
- Streetcar along Puget sound
- Experience Music Project Museum, Seattle Center - amazing architecture by Frank Gehry and fun for music fans
- Day tour to Mount Rainier

Riding a bus in the downtown area is free!
Enjoy your trip!
You must ride the ferry....no matter how many times I do it...I always find it a highlight of my trip...We vacation there often from Idaho....The Underground Tour is awesome.... very informative...and then there's the Music Experiment a must do for any music fan.....of course The Needle...sooo much to do in Seattle...have a blast I always do!
We visited Seattle for the first time last Labor Day. The weather was spectacular! The skies couldn't have been bluer or the sun brighter, and the temperature was comfortable and not muggy at all. I've since heard from others that the rains really are most problematic in the winter and the rest of the year, you can be fairly certain of good weather.

It's an easy city to navigate--even getting from the airport into the city is easy via public transportation. The bus service is good and the drivers are about as friendly and patient as I've seen anywhere.

Dining in that city is one of the greatest joys. Not only is the food the freshest possible, it is relatively cheap, and the chefs are, in my opinion, the most imaginitive in the country right now. We didn't eat anyplace that wasn't superb and we're pretty spoiled in NYC. Don't "cheap out" on eating while you're there because you'll miss out on some fantastic and memorable meals!

There's the obligatory space needle visit, but there are museums for almost any interests. The Public Market is an enjoyable visit. You can also visit Boeing just outside the city and tour Nixon's Air Force One and a Concorde jet, among other things. That visitor center could easily kill the better part of a day.

Anything on the water was fun. You can do evening cruises or sunset sails that are just magnificent. We enjoyed drinks at the myriad pier restaurants. You can have some good Cosmopolitans at Happy Hour at the Edgewater, which incidentally, isn't a bad place to stay.

There's bookstores and Starbuck's on every corner, but I'd bypass those since presumably, you can do that at home.

One odd thing about Seattle: it appeared as though a disproportional number of people exhibited bipolar-like symptoms. I couldn't determine if that was because of the weather (lots of reflective sun versus lots of dreary rain) or the myriad of social services the city provides, thereby encouraging the migration of mental ill to the area. Anyway, when taking public buses, I suggest sitting in the back as the nutty people seem to gravitate to the front. They seemed pretty harmless, but I'll bet you'll notice it.
personal trip September 2006
The weather should be very nice around that time... might even be a little hot!! anyway I love taking the ferry I live here and I do it just for fun... definitly go up the space needle, if you are a rock history buff visit the EMP Museum... ummm check if a festival is going on.. There will definitly be 4th of July fireworks and the clubs will be out of control around the 4th... If you've got the cash stay at the Renaissance hotel its the best around.... go see a play...... umm maybe if it's the right time of year i'm not really sure when the season is but go whale watching at the san juan islands... The cheesecake factory is an awesome resturaunt to eat at .. but my personal favorite is Wild Ginger it's only good if you're an ethnic food fan.... There's definitly some good shopping... You could also check out staying at the mountains up north...... there are a lot of lake lodges in washington too so might want to check those out.. if you have any more questions let me know
