Whatare some ways to get from Seattle to Victoria/Vancouver Island? |
Travel Info What is the perferred way? The clipper ferry? Travel Tips The Victoria Clipper is the most common way. It is like taking a train up there. It was pretty fast and fun. You could take the car ferrys as mentioned above, or you could fly via Kenmore Air. Others There is direct ferry service from Seattle, and also from Port Angeles, on the Olympic Peninsula. I prefer the slower (and cheaper) car ferry; the ride itself is enjoyable and I don't mind the extra hour or two. Get to the ferry a bit early, especially if you are driving: if you're leaving the car behind, parking may be hard to find, and if you're taking it with you, the ferry fills up quickly. Keep your camera handy :-) The Clipper is great if you don't need your car. If you'd rather take your car over, you can take the BC ferry from Tswassen (I'm SURE I spelled that wrong!) which is just across the border. Or you can get a ferry from Anacortes or fly Kenmore Air from Lake Union into Victoria Harbor. If you want a true Vancouver Island experience, skip Victoria altogether (it's essentially a boring provincial capitol...though the Royal British Columbia Museum is great) and drive from Seattle to Tswassen (just over the Canadian border), where you can catch a ferry to Nanaimo. From Nanaimo, head north, then west to Tofino and the amazing Pacific Rim National Park...Mountains, rain forest, water...one of the most beautiful, accessible places on earth. You drive North to Tsawassen and take the Ferry to Schwartz Bay and drive into Victoria. Stay at the Union Club and eat at the Blue Crab. |
