If it wasn't for your job, would you stay in Seattle? |
Travel Info - Chicks are fat, bad tudes, bad dressers. Single mom capital. - Ridiculous taxes and home prices for what you get. - Lots of traffic. - Boring, rains a lot. Travel Tips I would stay. As for your comments everyone has a right to their opinions---here goes mine. You really need to go out more often and meet some different people as it sounds like you're catagorizing which is not good. Look around, it takes all kinds of people to make the world. As you belittle others, you belittle yourself & I have a feeling your smarter than that. Others No. I never liked Seattle. YES...my family had to move because of the whole job/home price crap!! It is the best city ever...but i dont think it will stay that way sadly =[ I was recruited by a company up there, but knowing how much it rains there, I politely told them no. No, I have lived in Seattle most of my life for 29 years and I have currently bought a home in Phoenix to relocate. People underestimate the gray rainy days and how they affect the overall quality of life over the years, especially if you love the outdoors like I do. Any place you live will have good and bad qualities and I have weighed these in my decision, the largest factor for me staying as long as I have is the decent economy of the greater Seattle area compared with many other parts of the US, we seem to be recessiion resistant here. Also, the summers are beautiful here and certainly remind you of the reasons to be here, however, it is only about 3-4 short months then back to the weeks and months of never ending rain. Taxes here are fairly high, transportation is poor and the infastructure of the freeway system is terrible compared with say, Phoenix. For me personaly, the recreation, quality of life and general overall healthy feeling I have when visiting a sunny place like Arizona have been enough to lure me from a good paying job here in Seattle. Even if Phoenix ends up to be a complete bust for me someday, I won't return to Seattle. Just my 2 Cents, good luck. I would definitely stay in Seattle. 1. I haven't found all "Chicks are fat, bad tudes, bad dressers." I think you're meeting the wrong women or going to the wrong places to meet 'em... 2. Taxes aren't that bad. We have a hefty sales tax, but no state income tax. We are close enough to drive to Portland to shop if sales tax is bad enough. With real estate prices going up, taxes are too, but if you've got the real estate, there's $$$. 3. I ride bike/trike/bus these days. The traffic has been getting more and more ridiculous and that drives me crazy when I'm in it. We definitely do need a better mass transit system set up here, but I can deal with it... On the homes, yeah, prices are just getting way out of hand. It seems very different if you've been able to get into a home/real estate at any time within the last many years and you're appreciating the 4. Rains a lot? Eh, we get a lot of drizzle and overcast days, but the summers here are just some of the most beautiful thing. We've got amazing summers and the great outdoors to enjoy it in. Mountains, the Pacific Ocean, Canada, and Portland are all just a couple to a few hours away. Skiing/snowboarding in the winter is fantastic! Not having our roads heavily salted in the winter like the east coast is fantastic for our cars! Summers on Lake Washington, from yachts to rental boats from UW are just a joy. Bike trails are excellent. Hiking in the mountains is good times... There's a lot more than just rain around here, but I know a lot of people that just get kind of mentally down from all of the rain when we're in one of those "periods" of weather. Western Washington is one of the most beautiful parts of this country! Where else can you drive less than two hours and get to either the ocean, the desert, mountains? It's a great place to live if you want the perfect mix of city and outdoors. And if you don't like the traffic and housing prices, you can move west to the peninsula or north to Bellingham and still have the beauty of the area. |
