Travel Tips
Yes, Seattle is definitely one of the most beautiful cities in the world. It has the full package. A city(for starters!), the ocean and the mountains! What more could you ask for? Mt. Rainier is among the finest sights I have ever seen. Seattle is also a very walkable city making the beauty stand out more. It is a very livable city. The Cascade Mountains can be viewed from almost any where on a clear day. The people in Seattle are also awesome! Layed back and relaxed. Perfect in my opinion. Definitely an amazing city! Pretty picture, but all towns look pretty with all the lights.
I prefer old European towns, where the houses next to each other might differ 500 years in building date, where the people looking out of the window at the top floor can talk with people on the street.
Villages are even better, I have seen a few in England and France that must be the most pretty in the world, different from each other, but so nice to see.
No. I mean it has it's qualities, but I would not personally say it was one of the most beautiful cities "in the world"
For staters, that photo is just a sparkling night skyline of a city-if you remove the space needle from the photo, it could be a photo of many many cities.
And a bunch of lit buildings is NOT my idea of beauty at all.
If anything, it is more the outskirts of Seattle that have beauty, like Mount Rainier, the Cascades, Rainforest etc.
But back to your using the phrase "in the world"-sounds like you haven't travelled much as there are far more exquisitely beautiful places in the world. I have lived in Seattle and in many other parts of the world and I never think of Seattle as beautiful when compared to most other places I have been.
The Northwest definitely has beauty, but as a city itself, it's a major metropolitan U.S. city-how beautiful can it be.
I've been to many parts of the world and have even lived in a few. I found lots of beautiful places and I'd say Seattle is up there with the best of them. Day or night, it's really beautiful.
Seattle has nice new buildings, well enough, but the real beauty is its setting and surroundings. Elliot Bay and Puget Sound to the west, then the Olympic Mountains... Lake Washington to the east, then the foothills and the Cascade Mountains... views of 14000 foot tall Mt Rainier from almost anywhere, and peekaboo views of Mt Baker. Ferries, farms, forest, lakes, the Sound, mountains on both sides.... Plus in the summer, during the dry season (now to about September) unlike Europe or the East Coast it's really dry air so the visibility is often over 50 or 100 miles- Mt Rainier is 65 miles from Seattle and seems like it is hovering just over the next hill. At our northern latitude (47 degrees, the northernmost major city in the lower 48), the air and light have a special quality that has to be seen to be believed.

The nearest competitors are Vancouver BC and Juneau Alaska. Juneau is a small town but the scenery and nature are astounding. Vancouver is about Seattle's size but similar in many of the ways discussed above.

Come visit!
