What to see in Washington State? |
Travel Info I live near Seattle and I'm having an exchange student come visit, what are some must sees, here for two weeks, a teenager, we'll go to pikes place, space needle, but any other ideas? Travel Tips Mt. Rainier--drive up to Sunrise, and to Paradise; see other things in the park like the Grove of Giants, too. Great place to hike, this time of year. Mt. St. Helens... farther away, but worth the visit. The interpretation centers are fascinating, as are the various places around the monument... check out Ape Caves, south of the mountain outside the blast zone. The San Juan Islands--HOW is it POSSIBLE that I'm the first to mention this?? The San Juans are a MUST for any visitor. Drive up to Anacortes and go to the ferry terminal, and take a ferry to Lopez Island, Orcas Island, or San Juan Island... San Juan Island might be the best choice if you only have a day. Get off at Friday Harbor and rent bikes or mopeds, or get on the regular summer shuttle, which will take you to most of the island's main attractions--Roche Harbor, Whale Watch Park (aka Lime Kiln State Park, which has a beautiful lighthouse), American Camp, British camp, and other places. It's cheaper to get on the ferry as a passenger than if you bring your car, but the car will get you more places on the island... it's a LONG wait this time of year, though, if you bring a car. The Pacific Coast, especially Long Beach, West Port, Ocean Shores, and farther north along the Olympic Coast. Deception Pass, on Whidbey Island. Sun Lakes State Park, in eastern Washington--and the Grand Coulee Dam, a ways north. Yakama, and the Tri-Cities, and Spokane... people often forget there's an eastern half to our state, you know... and that it is completely unlike the western half. Mt. Baker, up in Whatcom County. Vancouver or Victoria BC, if your new friends can go to Canada--check into it. Portland, Oregon, for tax-free shopping. Many many many many more places... look up a Washington tourism site and browse for ideas. Others it is a beautifully place,it has pace and has nice people too Grand Coulee dam Laser show... its kinda cool. The beach is a must and in Longbeach you can drive on the beach which is fun, plus Astoria is close and that is a interesting town with a cool lookout where you can see the colombia river and the ocean meet. Rainer is cool. Ferry rides are always awesome. Olympia is neat because of the government buildings. St.Helens is awesome, you can see where all the trees were knocked down. Boeing, Payne feild has the largest continious building in the world. The underground seattle is alot of fun... Mount Rainier. Hurricane Ridge in the Olympic National Forest, which would also get a ferry ride. Mount St. Helens. In addition to what has already been mentioned. Pike Place Market and the original Starbucks store are always a hit. Mt ranier |
