The Durian is a nickname for the theatre complex that was opened 5 years ago called The Esplanade. There are various performances held there from classical concerts, musicals, theatre performances, ballet, music, etc.

The location of the Esplanade is at the Marina Bay.

The reason for the nickname is that the theatre complex looks like a durian fruit cut open and put with its skin facing up. Other people see it as insect eyes.
A durian fruit is a spiky fruit on the outside with soft yellow fruit inside that has a pungent smell but a delicious taste (some people don't like it because of its smell).
