I assume you are referring to Batam Island in Indonesia. Depending on your purpose of visiting. If you are on tour, nothing great there this moment except golf courses (there are a few). Some seafood restaurants. Cheap cigarettes and beer. Nightlife for men, karaoke and massage centre. And of course, you'll enjoy the boat ride to and fro Singapore/Batam.

It's a nice place to visit for a weekend, across the strait, from Singapore. Batam is in Indonesia and depending upon your nationality, visa-on-arrivals are available. There's some cheap shopping but hotels are unreasonably high priced. Restaurants are good and serve authentic Indonesian cuisine. It's a rather modern place and shopping is cheap. You get some good Indonesian stuff there.
