the night safari is quite a treat. The beaches left alot to be desired. Not to mention the dozens of oil tankers right off the shore...

How long do you have?
If you only have a few days, try to get the feeling/experience of all of hte cultures of Singapore.
One of hte most amazing things in SIngapore is that so many cultures have come together to live peacefiully in such a small area. You can not say that about manyplaces in the world.
So I advise:
1. Walk through Chinatown and have a dumpling lunch.
2. Walk through Little India, have your hands henna'd (a type of non-permanent ink design on your hands),a nd visit the temples.
3. From Little India, it is a short walk to Arab street to see the mosque. eat Lebanese food across the street . (also, on your route between Little India and Arab Street, you will pass a few great outdoor markets.. you can buy silk purses and cheap tea sets and such)
4. From Arab street, it is back to the western world: walk towards RAffles Hotel.. maybe have a Root Beer float in the American diner or a Singapore Sling at hte Long Bar.. maybe shopping at the RAffles Mall.
5. Now, it is a short walk to the beginning of Orchard Road.. good shopping starts around Le Meridien Hotel..

When are you going? The Christmas lights and displays along Orchard Road are amazing!
I advise eating a dinner at "Nude" on Orchard Road for fresh & ecclectic choices.. (nude refers to the fact that no artificial colors/flavors/etc are added to teh food they serve)

If you have more time, go out to Sentosa Island for the day or go to the Night SAfari at hte zoo.. both are fun and worth the travel.
