History of Orchad Road in S'pore?

Hi, everyone. As all Singaporean know that there's a road which is famous all over the world called Orchad Road (Wujie Lu in Chinese Pinyin). Can anyone provide relavent historical info about this famous road? I am a Hong Kong netizen who attempt to explore Singapore.

If it helps, the word 'Orchard' means an area of land devoted to the cultivation of fruit or nut trees and that is exactly what Orchard Road was named after. Many nutmeg plantations, pepper farms and fruit orchards used to line the streets in the 1830s.
